Assistant Fitness Director

Overview: The Assistant Fitness Director will provide leadership for all Fitness Center programs and staff to ensure that the JCC meets or exceeds financial and membership engagement goals. The candidate will support the Fitness & Wellness Director in the daily operations of the Fitness Center, with a primary focus on the management and growth of the Group Fitness program. This role ensures that classes are engaging, inclusive, and aligned with the JCC’s mission to promote health, wellness, and community. The Assistant Director plays a key role in member engagement, instructor supervision, and program development, while also contributing to the overall success of the Fitness and Wellness Department.
General Responsibilities:
- Be committed to the maintenance and growth of Group Fitness. This includes, but is not limited to; program planning, implementation, enforcement of rules and regulations, and maintaining the overall smooth and consistent functioning of classes.
- Enter weekly and special programs into the registration and schedule system and create monthly schedules with marketing department.
- Ensure that technology necessary for classes is up to date and in proper working order
- Recruit, hire, retain, and develop a premier instructor team.
- Foster professional standards among all instructors and members.
- Maintain tracking records for equipment and attendance.
- Be an integral part in the growth of all Group Fitness programming.
- General marketing to promote programs and activities.
- Prepare statistics and reports on Group Fitness as requested by the Fitness Director.
- Create Fitness Center schedule and manage staff as needed to complete daily checklists, maintain a clean and safe space, and support instructors, trainers and other Fitness Center staff.
- Complete weekly payroll for Fitness Center Desk and Group Fitness Employees.
- Support the Fitness and Wellness Director in the maintenance and growth of special fitness programs such as Momentum and JSpa.
- Provide the highest quality service possible to members and prospective members and assist in resolving issues that arise.
- Work closely with the Fitness and Wellness Director to maintain and meet department budget goals.
- Communicate needs for group fitness equipment and supplies.
- Maintain staff Group Fitness and Safety Certifications.
- Maintain an active presence in all areas of the Fitness Center, including but not limited to Personal Training hours, Fitness Center Desk shifts and subbing for Group Fitness classes if necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Performance Expectations:
- Understand/possess an openness to Jewish religion and traditions
- Attend all meetings and events that support the department’s main objectives and responsibilities.
- Positively and actively promote the JCC’s mission, membership, programs, events, and charitable purpose to JCC members and the general public
- Be familiar with the mission, vision statements, and Core Values of the JCC. Model the Core Values while working and communicating with members and staff
- Communicate in a clear, timely and effective manner.
- Be actively involved in the strategic initiatives for the group fitness department.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years’ instructor experience.
- Have 2 years’ supervisory experience or the equivalent experience.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills, computer skills
- Have and maintain a nationally recognized Group Fitness Instructor certification
- CPR/AED certification must be current and maintained
- First Aid certification is recommended
