The Forward is seeking a Yiddish speaker to help serve people interested in watching, hearing and reading about the language and its importance in Jewish cultural life. This part-time role focuses on producing short videos and writing that speak to lovers of Yiddish, monitoring social media for Yiddish conversations, tracking cultural updates related to Yiddish, and engaging the Yiddish community to generate ideas and stories. The ideal candidate is comfortable writing personal essays in Yiddish or English, interviewing on camera, reporting on cultural events, and tracking and covering developments in the Yiddish world; the job does not require perfect fluency but does require a solid grasp of style and grammar in both Yiddish and English; knowledge of Yiddish literature, songs and traditions will help. Pays $25/hour and reports to the Yiddish editor. The Forward’s newsroom is in New York City, with a generous hybrid policy for area residents, but we are open to qualified candidates who work remotely from other locations with some visits to New York as needed. In this 15-hour-a-week position, tasks include posting to Forverts social accounts and Reddit; producing short videos for YouTube, Instagram and TikTok; supporting Yiddish editorial work via news briefs, Word of the Day videos, cooking/food content; and helping to shepherd coverage that engages Yiddishists of all ages and levels. To apply, send your resume and a cover letter to jobs@forward.com with examples of initial story ideas; include “Yiddish Producer” in the subject line.
