The Forward is seeking a talented journalist to join its year-long fellowship program, aimed at diversifying the pipeline of individuals who work in Jewish media. Supported by the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, these full-time newsroom roles include professional development and mentoring by leaders in the field.Goal: Broaden and strengthen opportunities for Jews of color in Jewish media to better reflect the full diversity of the American Jewish population in coverage, community conversations, and decision-making.Scope: Applicants should specify their preferred area(s) (e.g., reporting/writing news or culture, multimedia storytelling, strategic projects with the editor-in-chief, audience engagement/analytics/social, commissioning/editing opinion pieces, data reporting/visualization).Program: Fellows work alongside staff, lead at least one major project, receive mentorship from experts with deep contacts among journalists of color, participate in staff meetings and professional development, and receive individual coaching.Qualifications: Curiosity about diverse Jewish communities; relevant experience in media/nonprofits; strong communication and analytical skills; entrepreneurial spirit; team orientation; pluses include multimedia, data, and social media fluency.Location: Tri-State area fellows expected to work in person at the Lower Manhattan office twice a week; candidates elsewhere who can work remotely are welcome to apply.Compensation & Terms: 12-month fellowship; annual salary $46,000; News Guild position; generous health benefits; paid national and Jewish holidays; other perks.
