The Forward is seeking one or more beginning journalists passionate about digital and audience — and the Jewish world — for paid internships reporting and writing news items. Supported by the Sy Syms Endowment for Journalistic Excellence. Terms: Up to 29 hours/week at $15/hour; initial term 10 weeks, may be extended up to a year; rolling applications. Role: Fast-paced, reader-facing reporting, writing, and publishing across a broad range of subjects. Qualifications: Experience at campus or other publications; strong web/social instincts; speed and clarity in writing; solid style/grammar; ability to juggle multiple projects; strong collaboration. Responsibilities: - Report and write across sections, including breaking news on politics, culture, and more. - Scour the Jewish internet for news, conversations, opportunities, and ideas. - Support colleagues’ reporting and writing. - Source photos/art quickly. - Use social platforms to build readership. - Use audience tools and analyze traffic patterns to optimize story selection and framing. Ideal candidates have interest in Israel and Hollywood, politics and antisemitism; a keen eye for what resonates with Jewish readers; sufficient Jewish background or strong curiosity and commitment; work well under pressure and with feedback; file clean copy; are creative and flexible; channel the brand while developing individual voice; use SEO to maximize impact. Growth: Successful interns often move into yearlong fellowships and staff roles.
