The Combined Jewish Philanthropies
Director of Havayah
Because Jewish teen life should be meaningful, joyful, and unforgettable.
What is Havayah? Havayah means experience—the kind rooted in experiential learning, deep relationships, and moments that truly matter.
Who We Are
Temple Beth Elohim (TBE) is a vibrant, innovative Reform congregation in Wellesley, MA, home to 1,300 member families from 37 Boston-area communities. We are a place of warmth, creativity, and spiritual searching—where people of all ages explore how Judaism can help them live with purpose, connection, and shalom (wholeness). Our community is grounded in meaningful connection to Judaism with plenty of warmth, levity, and joy along the way.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a dynamic, relational, and visionary educator to serve as our Director of Havayah, the heart of Jewish teen life at TBE.
This role is all about connection—to teens, to Judaism, and to community. The Director of Havayah oversees our teen community (grades 8–12), shaping experiences that spark curiosity, build leadership, deepen relationships, and make Judaism feel relevant, joyful, and alive.
Working closely with the Executive Director of Jewish Living, Director of K–7 Learning, clergy partners, educators, and dedicated lay leaders, you’ll set the vision for teen engagement at TBE—and then bring it to life.
Who You Are
You genuinely love teens. You get their humor, respect their questions, and enjoy helping them figure out who they are and what they believe. You are equally comfortable dreaming big and making the details happen.
You bring:
* A deep passion for Jewish education, youth engagement, and/or experiential learning
* Creativity, warmth, flexibility, and a collaborative spirit
* Strong leadership, supervision, and team-building skills
* Excellent communication and organizational abilities
* The ability to juggle multiple programs, timelines, and relationships with grace
* Comfort working as part of a large, dynamic professional team
* Availability for evenings, weekends, and occasional travel
What You’ll Do
Teen Learning & Engagement (Havayah, Grades 8–12)
In partnership with the Executive Director of Jewish Living, you’ll shape and advance the vision for teen life at TBE. You’ll oversee Havayah and its many vibrant programs and chavurot (affinity groups.)
You’ll design and lead engaging, developmentally appropriate Jewish learning and leadership opportunities, build strong relationships with teens and their families, supervise youth educators, and shape the vision for and support implementation of teen travel.
Religious School & K–7 Partnership
Lead and develop the Madrichim and Madrichim-in-Training programs, mentoring teens as classroom assistants, song leaders, and one-to-one aides. Partner closely with the Director of K–7 Learning and educators to thoughtfully integrate teens into the religious school community through training, support, and professional development.
Family & Community Engagement
Help plan and staff large youth, family, and all-community events and holidays, while partnering with clergy and staff to deepen connections between teens, families, and the broader TBE community.
Qualifications & Expectations
* Bachelor’s degree required
* 5+ years experience working with children and teens
* Passion for experiential and Jewish learning
* Full-time, year-round position with varied hours, including weekends and holidays
Don’t meet every qualification listed? If this role excites you and you can see yourself thriving here, we strongly encourage you to apply.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $75,000–$105,000, based on education and experience. Benefits include health insurance, voluntary dental insurance, FSA, long-term disability, retirement savings plan, temple membership, generous paid time off, family leave, and professional development support.
