Position Overview

Sefaria, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building the future of Torah in an open, participatory way, is seeking a summer QA intern. This is a full-time, minimum 8-week internship, with the possibility of extension.

This is a hybrid role in Israel with at least one day a week in our Jerusalem office. The internship is from July 5, 2026, to August 30, 2026.

This role will focus on improving the quality and reliability of Sefaria’s web and mobile platforms by expanding and maintaining automated test coverage. You will work closely with the QA, Product, and Engineering teams to build automated tests, improve testing processes, and help ensure a seamless experience for Sefaria users worldwide. This internship focuses primarily on test automation, with some exploratory testing to support new feature development. This position will report to the QA Manager.

During this internship, you will gain hands-on experience with modern QA automation tools and methodologies, mentorship from experienced engineers and QA professionals, and exposure to working in an agile, open-source development environment. You will contribute directly to ensuring the stability and usability of a platform used by hundreds of thousands of learners worldwide.

Our testing stack currently includes Playwright (web automation), Appium (mobile testing), JavaScript/TypeScript, GitHub, and CI pipelines.

In this position, you will do the following:

  • Test Automation Development: Design and implement automated tests for Sefaria’s web and mobile applications using tools such as Playwright and Appium
  • Build and Maintain Test Suites: Expand automated regression coverage and maintain existing tests to ensure the stability of core features across the platform
  • Bug Investigation and Reporting: Reproduce issues, document bugs clearly, and work with engineers to track and verify resolutions
  • Collaboration & Agile Participation: Participate in team discussions and testing cycles to support high-quality feature delivery
  • Documentation: Maintain clear documentation for automated tests, QA processes, and testing best practices

Experience, Qualifications, and Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Basic experience in Python or JavaScript (or similar programming languages).
  • Familiarity with Git/GitHub and version control best practices.
  • Interest in or exposure to software testing or QA automation.
  • Demonstrated interest in digital humanities or text analysis, preferred.
  • Familiarity with automated testing frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Selenium, Cypress) - a benefit, not required.
  • Familiarity with mobile testing tools (e.g., Appium) - a benefit, not required.
  • Proficiency in working with online work environment technology, including GSuite, Slack, Zoom, and Shortcut. (training will be provided as needed).

Compensation

  • 64 ILS per hour.
  • Standard Israeli taxes and benefits.

Location

This position can be based anywhere in Israel and requires travel to the Jerusalem office at least one day per week.
