Position Overview
Sefaria, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building the future of Torah in an open, participatory way, is seeking a summer engineering intern. This is a full-time, minimum 8-week internship, with the possibility of extension.
This is a hybrid role in Israel with at least one day a week in our Jerusalem office. The internship is from July 5, 2026, to August 30, 2026.
This role will require a deep dive into the heart of Sefaria’s technical platform to enhance and expand the opportunities and resources that Sefaria provides to its users and other developers. You will work closely with our Product, Design, and Engineering teams to gain in-depth knowledge across a variety of software development and digital humanities disciplines. This position will report to an Engineering manager.
You will gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge digital humanities tools and methodologies, mentorship from Sefaria’s engineers, and the opportunity to experience working in an agile, open-source development environment, with a tangible impact on the accessibility and interconnectedness of Jewish texts worldwide.
In this position, you will do the following:
- Software Development: Collaborate with the Engineering Team to implement new features or enhancements in Sefaria’s codebase and infrastructure
- Collaboration & Testing: Participate in team discussions, code reviews, and testing of new functionalities
- Documentation: Maintain clear and organized documentation of newly developed features, methods, and best practices
- Perform other duties as assigned

Experience, Qualifications, and Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- Basic experience in Python or JavaScript (or similar programming languages).
- Familiarity with Git/GitHub and version control best practices.
- Experience building CI/CD workflows, or working with Google Kubernetes Engine - a benefit, not required.
- Demonstrated interest in digital humanities or text analysis, preferred.
- Proficiency in working with online work environment technology, including GSuite, Slack, Zoom, and Shortcut (training will be provided as needed).
Compensation
- 64 ILS per hour.
- Standard Israeli taxes and benefits.
Location
This position can be based anywhere in Israel and requires travel to the Jerusalem office at least one day per week.
