POSITION SUMMARY: JVS’ Healthcare Skills Training programs are designed to support adults who are seeking entry-level positions in healthcare. The curriculum is contextualized for healthcare and incorporates employer feedback. It has been developed to assist students in passing the national/State certification exam. Populations served includes unemployed and underemployed and other low-income individuals with barriers to employment.
Under the direction of the Senior Skills Instructor/Manager, the Skills & Job Readiness Trainer develops, updates, and delivers contextualized curriculum, and job readiness training for both skills training programs (including healthcare, BioMAP, Business Services,) and other technical programs. The role trains diverse populations, evaluates their progress and promotes skill attainment, while incorporating the JVS core skills into the program's curriculum.
This role delivers instruction at employer/partner and JVS locations (Federal St, ArLab, & off-site), and models' professional behaviors, for participants and staff, to ensure a professional and inclusive learning environment. The Skills & Job Readiness Trainer actively tracks client outcomes, communicates with employers to provide participant updates and supports reporting to internal and external stakeholders (staff, employers, and funders).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Crosstrain to deliver established, contextualized content across the suite of Healthcare Skills Training Programs, BioMAP, HVAC/Maintenance Tech, and employer workshops.
• Develop and deliver contextualized curriculum for new pipeline programs (in person and virtually depending on cohort need), as needed.
• Deliver all subject matter in the curriculum with the goal of ensuring that trainees meet programmatic skill gains and outcomes.
• Administer frequent cumulative tests, quizzes, and exams, and modify teaching strategies utilizing certification requirements to focus on areas of deficiency.
• Incorporate JVS core competencies such as study skills, time management, soft skills, and critical thinking into all lessons.
• Create a classroom environment where all students feel heard, can express ideas, learn, and problem-solve in creative ways.
• Be flexible with individual learning styles and set appropriate limits to ensure all trainees have an equal opportunity to learn.
• Model professional behaviors, monitor and manage the classroom, and maintain real-time program expectations with participants.
• Develop daily lesson plans for each component, enter these plans into the SALESFORCE database on a weekly basis, and submit them to supervisor for review.
• Maintain programmatic scheduling, create course calendars, develop worksheets, and update syllabi.
• Create and submit emergency lesson plans at the beginning of each cohort/active cycle.
• Track and report on attendance, homework completion, classroom participation, and testing outcomes on a weekly/monthly basis.
• Communicate regularly with the Supervisor to ensure smooth delivery of services and program performance.
• Complete competency checklists and/or individual learning plans for each student.
• Assist with planning and implementation of cohort graduations, orientations, and workshops.
• Establish positive working relationships and encourage collaboration between team members and across JVS departments.
• A highly professional presence and communication skills are a must as the instructor will be representing JVS off-site at employers.
• Perform other duties as requested.
MINIMUM SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• AS degree required, BS in Education, Math, Science, or related field, CPhT preferred
• 2-3 years of workplace or related training/teaching experience
• Knowledge of adult learning theory
• Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a diverse group of clients
• Demonstrated presentation and facilitation skills
• Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills • Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work in a diverse environment.
