Position Summary
Brotherhood Synagogue is seeking a Part-Time Social Media Coordinator to help share the story, spirit, and daily life of our community through compelling and consistent digital content.
The Part-Time Social Media and Digital Content Coordinator will manage and grow the synagogue’s digital presence across social platforms. This role involves content creation, storytelling, photography, and engagement—helping to highlight Shabbat and holiday programming, adult learning, youth and family events, lifecycle moments, and community initiatives. The ideal candidate is creative, organized, and comfortable working in a Jewish setting with sensitivity to community norms.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media Management
- Plan, create, and schedule content for Instagram and Facebook.
- Develop posts that highlight synagogue events, clergy messages, holiday observances, learning opportunities, and community service projects.
- Monitor comments and messages, ensuring timely, positive engagement.
Content Creation
- Capture photos and short videos during weekday events and permitted programs (with sensitivity to Shabbat/holiday restrictions).
- Create graphics, reels, and stories using tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms.
- Develop content that reflects Conservative Judaism’s values, traditions, and community life.
SEO & Digital Optimization
- Assist in implementing basic SEO practices to improve search visibility (e.g., optimizing page titles, meta descriptions, keywords, alt text).
- Coordinate with staff to ensure content is structured effectively for discoverability and clarity.
Posting Events on External Platforms
- Post and update synagogue events on external community calendars such as UJA-Federation, The Hub and PJ Library.
- Maintain accurate and timely listings to expand our reach beyond current membership.
Digital Strategy & Reporting
- Maintain a social media content calendar to align with the Jewish calendar, synagogue events, and holiday cycles.
- Track key metrics (reach, engagement, growth) and provide monthly or quarterly insights.
- Propose new ideas for campaigns, series, or digital engagement.
Cross-Department Collaboration
- Work with education staff, clergy, and lay leaders to ensure important events are promoted.
- Align social media content with broader communications efforts (newsletters, website updates, etc.).
Qualifications
- 1–2 years of experience in social media, digital marketing, communications, or related fields (internships welcome).
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, content trends, and basic analytics.
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to communicate warmth, clarity, and cultural sensitivity.
- Familiarity with Jewish life—especially Conservative practice, holiday cycles, and Hebrew terminology—is preferred (can be learned with support).
- Comfortable photographing events and capturing candid, respectful content.
- Creative, organized, proactive, and able to manage deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with synagogues or Jewish nonprofits.
- Experience with design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and social media planning platforms.
- Light video editing or reel creation skills.
- Hebrew reading ability is a plus but not required.
Compensation
- Hourly rate: $22-25 per hour, commensurate with experience.
