Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic, strategic, and creative educational leader to oversee all aspects of Jewish learning in our congregation, from early childhood through adult education. This person would be the Hebrew School Director in addition to guiding our early childhood programs, nursery school, teen engagement, and adult learning programs, creating an integrated and dynamic journey of Jewish life and learning. A rabbinical or cantorial background is highly valued, though not required; we welcome both clergy and seasoned Jewish educators.

This role blends big-picture strategic thinking with hands-on program leadership, shaping transformative educational experiences that nurture strong Jewish identity, raise mensches, and prepare learners of all ages to navigate an increasingly complex world with wisdom, compassion, and happiness. The Director will work in close partnership with clergy, professional staff, lay leaders, and our diverse membership to ensure educational programs are spiritually nourishing, intellectual, welcoming, and full of Jewish joy.

Key Responsibilities

Vision, Strategy & Program Development

  • Identify, develop, and execute a vision for lifelong Jewish learning, from early childhood (toddler age and nursery school) through adulthood.
  • Ensure educational alignment with our congregation’s Jewish values and broader strategic vision.
  • Develop and implement curriculum for all age groups in collaboration with clergy and educational leadership.
  • Integrate clergy into educational experiences through tefilah, storytelling, and classroom engagement.
  • Foster innovation while honoring tradition, using creative pedagogy, experiential learning, and technology.
  • Partner with clergy to connect educational programs to worship, lifecycle events, and holiday observances.

Administrative & Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the Hebrew School as principal
  • Manage the Early Childhood Program Director
  • Oversee budgets, calendars, and logistics in coordination with administrative staff and the Executive Director.
  • Create a warm, responsive system for family communication, including regular emails, parent/teacher conferences, and website updates.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and educational standards.
  • Collaborate with clergy, staff, and committees to align educational programs with spiritual life.
  • Contribute to long-term strategic planning around community engagement and retention.
  • Supervise part-time office support.

Hebrew School Leadership

  • Lead day-to-day operations of the Hebrew school, including student/family recruitment, faculty management, and program delivery (including creating and implementing curriculum).
  • Recruit, onboard, supervise, and support teaching staff; create engaging professional development opportunities.
  • Manage communication with families, coordinate schedules, and liaise with relevant committees (Hebrew School, Early Childhood, etc.).
  • Oversee special programs such as the Hebrew School Musical, the Purim carnival, and individualized learning support (our Tikvah Program).
  • Coordinate youth and family Shabbat services and holiday programs in partnership with clergy.
  • Create joyful, accessible Jewish moments that invite deep family participation.

Teen & Post-B’nai Mitzvah Engagement

  • Create and lead educational, social, and leadership programs for teens beyond Hebrew school.
  • Mentor post-B’nai Mitzvah youth, helping them stay engaged in Jewish life through service, learning, and leadership roles.
  • Coordinate smooth program transitions from early childhood to Hebrew school to teen and college engagement.

Adult Education & Lifelong Learning

  • Design and promote engaging adult learning opportunities, from Torah study to contemporary Jewish issues. Working in partnership with the Adult Education Committee.
  • Partner with clergy and guest educators to bring diverse perspectives and experiences.
  • Develop intergenerational learning that connects adults with youth and teens.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Jewish education, educational administration, nonprofit leadership, or related field (e.g., rabbinical/cantorial studies or Judaic studies); Bachelor’s required; Master’s preferred.
  • Rabbinic or cantorial experience or background is preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in Jewish education, including staff supervision.
  • Strong Judaic knowledge and Hebrew proficiency.
  • Proven ability to design and implement curriculum across multiple age groups.
  • Experience in budget management, program evaluation, management, and strategic planning.
  • Understanding of diverse learning styles and commitment to inclusion.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Salary range: $130,000 - $165,000 annual, commensurate with experience.
  • Benefits include access to medical and dental coverage, 403b savings plan, commuter benefits, vacation and sick leave, synagogue membership, and professional development.
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday work required during the school year.
  • Start date is Spring/Summer 2026.
