As part of BJ’s re-aligned and expanded Advancement team; which includes Development and Membership, the Senior Development Manager will oversee day-to-day development operations including campaign management and reporting, member/donor support, gift acknowledgments, fundraising events, stewardship and cultivation, planned giving, and volunteer solicitation efforts. Other responsibilities may be assigned at the discretion of the Director.

Reporting to the Advancement Director, the Senior Development Manager will supervise the Development Associate and will work closely with the Membership Services Manager. The Advancement team works in partnership with the Finance Department and Communications Department.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee development operations

  • Supervise Development Associate, ensure timeliness and accuracy of gift processing and acknowledgements; assist with acknowledgments during high volume times and expedite as needed
  • Provide member/donor support where needed (in person, phone, virtual)
  • Draft development communications such as emails, print media, templates, gift acknowledgements, and follow-up notes for leadership (w/Communications team)
  • Supervise the sending of annual Tax Statements to all donor households and provide support as needed
  • Track and grow gifts made in honor of and in memory of
  • Create monthly summaries for the Board of Trustees and present regular progress reports to the Executive Director
  • Work closely with the Advancement Director on creative elements
  • Support the Development Committee lay leaders and work with chair to prepare for meetings and conduct follow up
  • Manage ad-hoc committees (i.e., phone-a-thon volunteers, event support)

Development Campaigns and Initiatives

  • Annually launch and manage the Kol Nidre Partnership Appeal
  • Produce Remembrance and Renewal communications four times throughout the year including the production of the Book of Remembrance
  • Provide strategic and tactical support: develop donor strategies, manage the donor pipeline, maintain accurate information on donors and prospects
  • Support rabbis, senior staff, and lay leaders as major gift solicitors
  • Prepare solicitor packets with prospect information and research, templatized messages, and clear timelines
  • Track solicitations, enter data in Salesforce
  • Coach and support solicitors
  • Assist in conceptualizing and executing major spring fundraising events such as galas or concerts
  • Manage smaller cultivation and stewardship events such as salons, dinners, and cocktail parties throughout the year
  • Manage the growth of the Or Hadash Legacy Circle, BJ’s planned giving initiative
  • Assist in the planning of social and educational events for legacy members
  • Track and coordinate paperwork, Salesforce records, and correspondence with executors and council for planned gifts
  • Support staff and rabbis by managing grant process and applications
  • Maintain accurate records of all grant income, supervise reporting, and manage renewal
  • Manage relationships with grantors
  • Manage the outreach to major donor households and offer to help clear up outstanding balances and renew membership and payment arrangements annually; help with High Holy Days entrance cards

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Three to five years development experience including department operations; Jewish community fundraising experience a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communications and interpersonal skills
  • Experience preferred with Salesforce or other CRM
  • Experience in Microsoft Office and G-Suite
  • Ability to manipulate data and exercise formulas in Excel/Google Sheets
  • Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines. Experience with Monday.com is a plus.
  • Experience interacting and building relationships with major donors and Board members
  • Proven success in coordinating fundraising campaigns and events
  • Prior management experience of people, processes, and campaigns
  • Experience with iWave, Guidestar, and GiveButter a plus
  • Ability to adjust hours based on seasonal needs (ie. at times working evenings and weekends, and during the High Holy Days)
  • Jewish knowledge is helpful but not required

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time overtime exempt position, with a salary range of $75,000 to $90,000. Salary will be based on experience level. BJ offers medical, dental and vision insurance, vacation, sick, and holiday policies, 403b retirement plan.
