Women’s League for Conservative Judaism (WLCJ) is an international organization which engages, enriches, empowers and unites our Conservative/Masorti members. We promote the sense of community, provide opportunities for learning and advocacy, and cultivate leaders. We are committed to Israel and the Torah Fund Campaign. Women’s League provides services to tens of thousands of women and hundreds of women’s groups, and individual members throughout North America and internationally.
Position Overview:
Based in New York City, the Communications Specialist is integral to the vision and mission of Women’s League. Reporting to the Executive Director, and working collaboratively with the WLCJ Digital Content Manager, the Communications Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing a varied and broad range of online and printed communication, media, and marketing activities that advance WLCJ’s programs, mission, and strategic direction. WLCJ is looking for a Communications Specialist who can enhance our brand recognition; increase our media coverage, create blogs and marketing materials; build and maintain media contacts; and develop and execute public relations strategies.
The Communications Specialist works closely with volunteers on several teams throughout the organization, and in particular with the Leadership, Communications and Convention Teams. This person also provides professional expertise and advice to Region and Sisterhood volunteers on related matters.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Do you have a background and passion for public relations, marketing, communications and excellent written and verbal skills? We are looking for you as our new Communications Specialist. This position requires a flair for creative writing, strong communication skills, editing skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently, as well as a team player with volunteers and professional staff is essential. Our ideal candidate will need to be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The duties and responsibilities of the WLCJ Communications Specialist include but are not limited to the following:
- Writes edits and creatively thinks in order to promote internal and external communications; draft and disseminate publicity materials.
- Addresses media and public relations inquiries.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates broad and integrated strategic communications and marketing plans to advance and maintain WLCJ’s brand identity, cultivates meaningful relationships with targeted audiences and publicizes WLCJ’s programs.
- Monitors and analyzes the effectiveness of projects.
- Formulates plans that will include a strong social media outreach campaign as well as marketing and public relations strategies that target Leadership, Membership, and the Jewish Community at large through various platforms.
- Leads the Communications and Marketing effort for the WLCJ Convention held every three years.
- Prepares, engages and cultivates press relationships to ensure coverage surrounding WLCJ programs, special events, projects, and initiatives.
- Prioritizes media opportunities and prepares talking points, speeches, presentations, and other supporting materials as is necessary.
- Develops a warm connection with co-workers, volunteers and constituent groups through strong listening skills, a sense of humor, and an eye to details, in order to help them reach their WLCJ, Region and Sisterhood communication and marketing goals.
Skills and Qualifications:
- A team player and relationship builder who has a highly collaborative work style and actively promotes this kind of interaction with staff, board members, volunteers, and program participants. Ability to work off hours on occasion.
- An innovator and implementer who can successfully manage in a timely way a variety of key initiatives concurrently, and can work both collaboratively, as well as independently.
- A talented and experienced writer with strong verbal and written communication skills, and an eye for details who executes responsibilities with a sense of urgency, accuracy and follow-through.
- A skilled editor, who can revise someone’s writing, without taking the writer’s voice away.
- Experience working within the Jewish Community or a strong understanding of Judaism.
- Bachelors’ degree in a Communications field, or a related major.
- 1-3+ years’ communications experience.
- Expertise in MS Office Suite and Adobe.
- Proficiency with social media including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Compensation and Other Details:

- Competitive salary $65,000 - $70,000.
