Title: Science Specialist - Full Time
Job Summary:
Brawerman Elementary School West seeks a full-time Science Teacher for Grades 1-3 or Grades 4-6 who is committed to leading an inquiry based, conceptual, and hands-on science program. The candidate should be a nurturing educator, supportive of the developmental needs of children Grades K-6 and prepared to introduce cutting-edge, best practices in all areas of the science curriculum as well as an ability to creatively communicate ideas to inspire scientific thinking. The ideal candidate should have an extensive knowledge of science curriculum design, including but not limited to physical, environmental, life, astronomy, and geological sciences.
Please note that in addition to full teaching responsibilities in Grades 1-3 or Grades 4-6, this individual will collaborate with the other science teacher to develop a comprehensive and sequential science curriculum for the entire school. The individual will also assist in science classes they are not directly responsible for planning.
This position is at our West Campus located at 11661 W. Olympic Blvd. in Los Angeles.
Our Campuses:
Brawerman Elementary School of Wilshire Boulevard Temple is a Reform Jewish day school (Kindergarten to Grade 6) with two campuses. The original West campus was founded in 1999 in a modern facility located in West Los Angeles. The East campus opened in fall 2011 in the heart of Los Angeles’ Koreatown, adjacent to the historic Wilshire Boulevard Temple sanctuary. We are a tight-knit community with a high level of collaboration among the faculty and an active parent body. Responsibilities:
● Plan, prepare, and implement a science curriculum that encourages intellectual curiosity, exploration, and collaboration
● Possess a strong knowledge of current science programs and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and practices
● Differentiate instruction as necessary to meet the needs of all students ● Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs
● Maintain an organized and welcoming science classroom conducive to student learning
● Use technology, innovation, design thinking, and inquiry to support instruction ● Communicate with secondary schools to ensure upper grade students are well prepared for science courses in middle school
● Use appropriate classroom management strategies so that expectations are clear and students feel comfortable and able to learn
● Collaborate with other faculty on school-wide curriculum integration, programming, and events
● Assist with supervisory tasks and other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
● Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in a science or related field and/or teaching credential
● Master’s in Education (preferred)
● Relevant teaching experience from independent, public, private, or charter schools
● Demonstrated interest and passion for science
● Knowledge of relevant technology
● Flexible thinker
● Excellent oral, written communication, facilitation, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
● Reflective, creative, self-directed, flexible, and a team player
● Campus leadership experience (preferred)
Compensation:
● $60,000 to $85,000 based on experience and qualifications
○ Salary is based on employment from mid-August 2023 to mid-June 2024 paid over twelve months
