Overview:
Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS) is an award-winning, nonprofit, nonsectarian human services organization founded in 1943. Today, it is the largest provider of licensed outpatient community mental health services and one of the largest human service agencies in Westchester County. WJCS delivers innovative programs and services and compassionate care to more than 20,000 people of all ages and backgrounds throughout the county.
We are currently seeking a part-time Cook (up to 20 hours per week) to join our Sunshine Club team in Shrub Oak, NY. In this role, the Cook is responsible for the overall operation of the kitchen, including meal planning, food preparation, and maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. The pay rate for this position is $20/hour.
Responsibilities:
As a valued member of our team, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Plan menu and order groceries.
- Prepare and cook meals 3 days per week, including a light breakfast (e.g. coffee, yogurt, pastries, fruit) and lunch only for approximately 15-25 people.
- Set up and arrange tables for meals.
- Clean up the program area as directed.
- Maintain records of meal plans and consumption.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
We are seeking candidates who possess the following qualifications:
- Knowledge of special diet food preparation.
- Knowledge of kitchen safety, sanitation, and maintenance practices.
- Basic cooking and food handling skills.
- Basic math skills (measuring, portioning, inventory).
- Experience in preparing and cooking meals for groups.
- Ability to read and communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, program directors and employees.
- High School graduate or GED
- Possess a driver’s license and your own vehicle to travel to the grocery store.
