Yachad, a division of The Orthodox Union, the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish organization‚ supports individuals with intellectual, developmental, and learning disabilities. Yachad helps these individuals participate more fully in Jewish life and the broader society by providing educational, employment, and relationship opportunities.
The Orthodox Union (OU) is one of the largest Orthodox Jewish organizations in the United States. Founded in 1898, the OU supports a network of synagogues, youth programs, Jewish and Religious Zionist advocacy programs, programs for the disabled, localized religious study programs, and international units. The OU maintains a kosher certification service, whose circled U symbol, Ⓤ, is found on the labels of many kosher commercial and consumer food products.
Position Summary:
The Program Director will be part of the leadership team in New Jersey and help shape the future of programs and services in the New Jersey region for participants ages 16 and older. Working under the direction and support of the Director of Yachad NJ, the program director will help create and implement a multitude of social programs that support individuals with disabilities and their families. At the forefront, there will be excellent customer service for both Yachad participants, their families, volunteers, and staff. Our goal will be to deliver meaningful programs and services to those who need our help, with a mindset of growth in both membership and the number of programs we offer on an ongoing basis.
This position requires knowledge of program development and knowledge of the community. Focus will be on ensuring that the region is strategically growing in current and new areas to best serve the special needs community. Emphasis on working with individuals with disabilities and providing inclusive opportunities to socialize with peers.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily programming of The Mendel Balk Yachad Center, including scheduling, activities, and in-person staff supervision. 3X week in-person supervision.
- Manage the intake and onboarding of new participants and support their participation and engagement in programs.
- Plan a bimonthly Sunday program
- Coordinate Shabbos programming, including 8 Shabbos afternoon programs in partnership with local communities, and plan and execute 4-5 overnight Shabbatons with partner shuls and schools.
- Supervise Coordinators to ensure events are appropriately staffed, and information is communicated and documented.
- Work with the wider Yachad New Jersey team on monthly special events.
Qualifications:
- Strong commitment to the mission of Yachad and a passion for supporting Jewish individuals with disabilities
- Well-versed in Jewish values and beliefs
- Experience in program development
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Computer Skills (Microsoft Office)
- Creative and organized
- Ability to work independently
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the field.
Salary & Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $60,000, commensurate with experience.
