The Union for Reform Judaism’s (URJ) Religious Action Center (RAC) is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Assistant Director to help lead and implement one of our flagship programs — the Bernard and Audre Rapoport L’Taken Social Justice Seminars — and to support broader efforts to protect democracy in the U.S., Canada, and Israel. About L’Taken
L’Taken brings together teens from across North America for four immersive days in Washington, D.C., where they explore Jewish social justice values, build community, and learn to advocate effectively on issues that matter to them. We proudly welcome participants from diverse backgrounds, including Teens of Color, LGBTQ+ identifying teens, teens from interfaith families, teens with disabilities, and other underrepresented groups.
What You Will Do
Reporting to the Director of L’Taken, the Assistant Director will play a key role in both strategic planning and hands-on execution. Responsibilities include:
- Support the design, implementation, and evaluation of all L’Taken seminar weekends.
- Collaborate on the development and revision of seminar programming to ensure engaging, meaningful, and inclusive experiences.
- Manage planning for Advocacy Day during each seminar, ensuring a smooth and impactful experience, including but not limited to scheduling and coordinating all Capitol Hill lobby visits with House and Senate offices and reserving meeting spaces for advocacy visits.
- Manage participant registration in Cvent in partnership with the Central Program Operations team.
- Oversee logistics including scheduling, materials preparation, and merchandise orders.
- Lead social media strategy and content creation to amplify the L’Taken program and related civic engagement work. Work closely with URJ and RAC communications teams to ensure consistent, mission-aligned messaging.
- Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, and supervision of seasonal staff supporting the L’Taken program.
- Maintain ongoing communication with congregations and community partners to support recruitment, registration, and relationship-building. Provide timely and professional support to participants and chaperones via phone and email.
- Support additional URJ initiatives, including immersive summer programs (with potential onsite responsibilities at a URJ camp).
- Contribute to the Reform Movement’s broader efforts to protect democracy and combat hate

- Program Management & Coordination: You have a strong ability to manage large-scale events, overseeing logistics, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure the successful execution of the L'Taken seminars. You’re skilled at juggling multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a smooth and efficient process.
- Leadership & Staff Supervision: You have proven experience recruiting, mentoring, and managing seasonal staff, providing guidance throughout the program’s execution, and fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
- Advocacy & Lobbying Coordination: You possess a strong understanding of advocacy processes, particularly in coordinating lobbying visits with elected officials, and the ability to work with teens to effectively advocate on critical issues.
- Social Media & Communications: You have expertise in developing and executing social media strategies that engage participants and stakeholders. You communicate clearly and compellingly, crafting impactful content across various platforms.
- Self-Management & Accountability: You manage your time effectively, prioritize well, and work autonomously to achieve goals while maintaining your personal well-being.
- Collaborative Teamwork: You enjoy working with diverse teams to achieve shared goals, ensuring clarity in roles and responsibilities. You manage resources and timelines effectively while addressing challenges respectfully and collaboratively.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- 1-3 years of experience in program management, preferably in youth engagement, social justice, or nonprofit sectors preferred
- A degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience is preferred.
- Occasional in-person meetings, as needed
- In the weeks leading up to each L'Taken seminar, the role requires in-office preparation at the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism building in Washington, D.C.
- Availability to work during L'Taken seminar weekends, staying at the hotel where the seminars take place, which occur between December and March, typically over an extended weekend (Friday – Monday) in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
- Potential for onsite involvement at a URJ residential camp during the summer, supporting additional programming.
