Summary of Position: In its first year, the Toronto Holocaust Museum—the premier destination for Holocaust education in the region—welcomed 14,000 students through its doors. With the goal of offering educational experiences to a wide range of groups from across the GTA, the Outreach Manager is integral to building relationships with stakeholders and community groups. This role is key to ensuring a meaningful and engaging visit to the Museum for a range of groups.

The Education Manager will be the team lead for all school and community groups and is responsible for the ongoing development of resources for teachers to meet their goals for Holocaust education. This position will work collaboratively with school group bookings and assist with problem-solving any challenges that arise. The Education Manager will build and maintain networks of educators and community groups through active outreach and programming collaboration. They will be responsible for communicating upcoming programming and highlights through the appropriate communication channels.

About the Toronto Holocaust Museum

The Toronto Holocaust Museum is a centre of excellence and innovation for learning about the Holocaust and the Education Manager will develop and assist in delivering relevant workshops and professional development seminars and related materials for educators in Holocaust Education. They work within the Education Department, reporting to the Director of Museum Experience and collaborating with the Museum Educator, Program Coordinator and volunteers to ensure each group visit to the museum is a transformative experience.

We believe that high impact Holocaust education that is relevant to the world we live in today, can inspire discussion and behavioral change around contemporary antisemitism and all forms of hate. This is an opportunity to work in an educational management position at a brand-new state-of-the-art institution and the first Holocaust Museum in Canada designed for the post-survivor period.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Team lead for education programs for school groups and community groups
  • Implement annual outreach timeline, materials and communications for all public and Catholic school boards in the GTA and beyond about Museum visits with a focus on TDSB, York Region, Durham and Peel.
  • Implement annual outreach strategy, materials and communication for all secular private and independent schools and Jewish Day Schools.
  • Develop and implement annual outreach strategy for community groups and ally groups while reaching out to new groups to engage.
  • Collaborate and customize programming for community and ally groups to achieve shared learning goals.
  • Customize Holocaust learning goals for Museum visit with both school boards, Jewish Day schools and supplementary schools.
  • Grow and update community group database for email and contact information and implement yearly communication plan.
  • Collaborate with marketing team to communicate regularly through enewblasts and social media posts to educators and community groups.
  • Develop content for and manage our Teacher Portal platform and discussion boards.
  • Work collaboratively with education team to schedule and deliver programs for schools and groups, working in the museum as needed.
  • Create an educator advisory group that meets quarterly.
  • Organize and customize various teacher training and community partner training workshops.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or Masters in related field.
  • Strong communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience working in community outreach, teaching in a formal or informal setting or in museum education.
  • Strong intercultural competency and dialogue skills.
  • Organized and systems-oriented.
  • Knowledge of the diversity of the Jewish community in the GTA.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience developing learning materials for students and educators including lessons and online resources.
  • Effective managements skills for leading a team and working collaboratively.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

* This is a full-time maternity leave contract position (14 months). At UJA we support a flexible work schedule and all of our employees engage in hybrid work.
