The Jewish Security Network (JSN) is an affiliate organization of the UJA that ensures and enhances the security and safety of the Jewish community within the Greater Toronto Area.
Overview:
The role of the Training Manager is to represent our organizational training efforts. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive training program to volunteers and paid security personnel within the community and JSN staff. Your primary focus will be developing and delivering training programs. Successful candidates for this position typically have backgrounds in security, training, leadership, and knowledge of the Jewish Community.
The role reports directly to the Director of Community Security.
Job Functions:
- Serves as the focal point for the training program, coordinating and implementing all training activities for the department.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of security procedures and local regulations in Canada.
- Responsible for creating and implementing a training program in compliance with all applicable policies, procedures and the law.
- Work closely with the various departments and stakeholders to ensure that the implementation of the appropriate security training programs.
- Manage a small team of trainers that will be deployed to conduct training in the community. Assessment of their training sessions, as well as ensuring that the team is managing their training session administrative and practical criteria is required.
- Provide regular updates to the Director of Community Security.
- Development of training material in collaboration with the training team as well as developing promotional material for the courses. • Ensure that legal and insurance criteria are met with each course offered.
- Monitor and evaluate training program’s effectiveness, success and ROI periodically and report on them.
- Manage the training budget.
- Resolve any specific problems and tailor training programs as necessary.
- Maintain a keen understanding of training trends, developments and best practices.
- Conduct training courses.
- Develops training programs and new methods based on field requirements.
- Participates in the organization's large-scale security operations.
Training Courses:
- Help with recruitment of volunteers and training course management.
- Create lesson plans and other training materials
- Develop multimedia visual aids and presentations.
- Create testing and evaluation processes.
Administration:
- Maintain detailed records of all training sessions, participant counts, course evaluations as well as establish evaluations of training success in the field.
- Schedule training courses including reserving rooms and relevant services.
- Ensure all documentation is organized and easily accessible for reference and auditing purposes.
- Manage training schedules, deadlines, and resources efficiently to keep the department on track.
- Closely monitor trainer schedules to ensure that overtime is kept to a minimum.
- Maintain consistent communication with all stakeholders, ensuring that everyone is informed regarding training schedules and completion.
- Obtains and develops training aids and materials.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Strong Security background
- Knowledge of volunteer programs
- Excellent interpersonal communication and team building skills
- Fluent in English, both written and verbal, with a strong command of grammar and vocabulary
- Must be available outside standard working hours
- Ability to work and connect with multiple players and stakeholders.
- Computer and Microsoft literate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google docs, etc.)
- Highly organized and methodical
- Understanding of the departmental objectives, culture and methodologies
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Understanding of security operations, emergency response protocols, and the needs of the Jewish community in the GTA.
