Overview

The Department of Basic Biomedical Science at the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM) seeks to fill a 12-month, full-time faculty position in Microbiology and/or Immunology at its Harlem, NY campus. Qualified applicants will be considered at Assistant Professor without initial appointment as Course Director, but with potential for future appointments as course director.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with faculty on all 3 campuses in the development, organization, and delivery of the Microbiology and Immunology curriculum presented simultaneously on all campuses.
  • Teach using a combination of live and recorded sessions applied in the flipped classroom format.
  • Develop and record video lectures in our professional media studio as well as facilitating weekly live discussion sessions with students.
  • Contribute to institutional and/or departmental governance and service.
  • Service to the school includes conducting student admissions interviews, serving as student advisor, and participating on the administrative committees of the college.
  • The successful candidate is expected to already have, or to develop scholarly activity that results in peer-reviewed publications.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Applicants must have a PhD in microbiology, immunology or a related field, or MD/PhD, DO/PhD in the same listed fields.
  • Prior teaching in a medically related curriculum is a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrates the potential for exceptional teaching at the medical school or graduate level in the areas mentioned in the job responsibilities section, demonstrate potential for research, and collaborate with the rest of faculty team.
  • Candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service, in line with TouroCOM's mission statement.
  • The ideal candidate will be proficient in the following areas: teaching, relevant content expertise, research techniques, instructional design, delivery and assessment, course management, public speaking, effective communication, working independently and as part of a team, organizational skills.
  • Computer Skills: Basic computer skills supporting the proficient use of the Microsoft Office Suite, software used to prepare and administer exams electronically, and learning management systems.

Travel

  • Infrequent travel to the branch campus location in Middletown, NY possible.
  • Travel to professional academic conferences, as approved by the Department Chair.

  • Extensive use of computers.
  • Able to lift 5 lbs.

Maximum Salary

USD $100,000.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $80,000.00/Yr.
