Overview
The Touro College of Pharmacy invites applications for 12-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice. The faculty position includes a faculty appointment at the Touro College of Dental Medicine. The practice site is at the Touro College of Dental Medicine in Hawthorne, New York.
Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:
- Faculty will develop an innovative clinical practice in an in-patient or ambulatory care setting and serve as a preceptor and role model for students on introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experiences
- Faculty will provide didactic classroom teaching and recitation instruction on campus
- Faculty will provide service on college committees, will attend and participate in departmental meetings, and will perform other faculty duties as appropriate
- Faculty will contribute to new knowledge (research) through research activities, poster presentations, publications, obtaining grants and/or contracts, clinical trials and other scholarly work
- Faculty will provide reports and other documents as requested by Department Chairs, Directors, and Deans
PRACTICE SITE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Daily services provided by the pharmacist faculty member and/or students supervised by the faculty member at the Dental Clinic include:
- Perform medication reconciliation for patients seen in the clinic
- Perform prospective medication review for patients seen in the clinic
- Administer vaccines (flu, pneumococcal, shingles)
- Counsel patients on medications prescribed by dentists on appointment discharge
- Design patient education leaflets for commonly prescribed agents, including pain medications such as NSAIDs, Opioids, antimicrobials, and others as indicated
- Respond to drug information queries
- Perform prospective drug utilization reviews and provide interventions regarding agents prescribed by dentists and to include review for drug interactions, contraindications, renal dosing, cost effective medication prescribing, preventative medication prescribing – such as PPIs to prevent gastropathy when using NSAIDs
- Perform screening tests for the dental clinic as indicated and permitted by NYS law (for example, hemoglobin A1c, HIV, or others)
- Perform pharmacogenetic testing when indicated
- Provide clinical pharmacology and pharmacotherapy education to dental providers and residents in areas identified by the dental providers (for example, antimicrobial spectrum/coverage, indications for anticoagulant discontinuation, duration of action, and reversal agents, pain management, renal dose adjustment of commonly utilized agents, common and important drug-drug and drug-disease interactions)
- Provide timely information and updates on prescribing laws and regulations in NY State
- Detect, report, and manage adverse drug reactions and medication errors
- Develop collaborative drug therapy management protocols to include ambulatory care services, prescribing, and ordering laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging
- Review medication storage to assist in meeting regulatory requirements
- Offer a rotation in the pharmacotherapy service to dental residents
- Lead and collaborate on research endeavors with dental school faculty and students
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- The applicant should have a Pharm.D. Degree with post-graduate training- a PGY-1 and PGY-2 Residency preferably in ambulatory care or Fellowship or equivalent clinical experience
- Previous academic experience and board certification in an area appropriate for the applicant's training and experience (e.g., BCPS or BCACP) are preferred

- A high degree of interpersonal competency: professionalism, diplomacy, judgement and discretion required
- Strong commitment to teaching, practice, and scholarship
- Exemplary interpersonal, communication and organization skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook
Certifications/Licensures
- Must be eligible for licensure in the state of New York
