Overview
The successful candidate will have earned a Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field with a specialization in biochemistry. Additionally, they will be expected to be proficient in teaching either Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 (lecture and laboratory) and/or General Chemistry 1 and 2 (lecture and laboratory). Special attention will be given to candidates who are comfortable teaching both chemistry topics in additional to biochemistry. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to teach advanced classes in their field of expertise, contingent upon student demand. The candidate should possess the ability to articulate a strategy or present a research proposal that involves undergraduate students. Furthermore, the candidate will be deeply involved in student advisement, primarily concerning the medical and health-related fields. The candidate will be expected to participate in campus and college-wide service.
Responsibilities
- Teach a minimum of four undergraduate courses/labs per semester but is expected to take on additional sections, including during the summer sessions
- Plan for instructional activities to include, but not limited to, lecture, class discussion, demonstration labs, and projects
- Continue productivity in scholarly works
- Mentor students in doing independent study projects
- Design and implement independent undergraduate research projects utilizing the university's available infrastructure and resources
- Provide academic student advisement
- Participate in student recruitment activities
- Serve on college committees
- Contribute to the department's curriculum development efforts
- Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance your understanding of advancements and developments in chemistry and related sciences, as well as emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) within the teaching profession
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- Doctorate in Chemistry or another related field required
- Experience in teaching at the college level preferred
- Funded research and experience with grant writing a plus
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Strong analytical skills.
- Requires ability to manage multiple and varied tasks with frequent high levels of urgency or sensitivity.
- Must be able to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues in a team environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills are required, both written and oral, as well as a high level of sophistication and maturity in social and professional settings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canvas, Blackboard, Banner, and Outlook
