Overview
Queens Mesivta is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced 10th and 12th Grade English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to become part of our team. The ideal candidate is a dedicated educator with a strong background in high school English Language Arts instruction, particularly in reading comprehension and writing development. This role requires the ability to motivate and challenge students across both standard and honors-level courses while promoting critical thinking and analytical skills. The successful candidate will play an important role in guiding students toward academic achievement and preparing them for future success beyond high school.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning. Course subjects include:
- Regents Exam preparation: strengthening reading comprehension, literary analysis, and writing skills.
- College level Writing: Guiding students through advanced writing techniques to excel in freshman- level college courses.
- Regular & Honors Classes: Teaching engaging and rigorous curricula tailored to diverse learners.
- Develops schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures. Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
- Provide appropriate feedback on work.
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies. Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development. Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations. Prepare required reports on students and activities.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
- Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development.
- Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university. Masters degree or NY State teaching certification preferred.
- Professional experience related to the field of study.
- Educator with experience in high school ELA instruction.
- Strong background in reading comprehension and writing strategies.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Ability to inspire and challenge students in both regular and honors-level classes.
- Commitment to fostering critical thinking and analytical skills.
