Overview
The Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine's Campus in Middletown, N.Y., has an opening for a full-time Faculty in the Department of Primary Care.
Primary responsibilities includes teaching and assessment of medical students, and facilitation of the Standardized Patient program. The role includes participation in departmental operations, course coordination, and collaborative initiatives that support the ongoing development and oversight of Primary Care programs, including Medical Simulation activities.
Candidates must be committed to teaching, scholarship, and service, in line with TouroCOM's mission statement, and possess strong communication and computer skills.
Responsibilities
1. Participate in the planning, execution, and delivery of the Department of Primary Care Courses and activities (ex: Clinical Systems, Physical Diagnosis, Early Clinical Experience, and Medical Simulation courses, Standardized Patient program and related programs)
2. Perform duties of Course Directors, Associated Course Directors or other related Faculty as needed
3. Collaborate in the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of Medical Simulation activities, including scenario development, operations, and learner assessment
4. Support the operations and administration of the Medical Simulation program
5. Participate in departmental operational activities, including coordination, planning, and support of course- and program-related processes
6. Assist the Chair and Vice Chair in academic and administrative functions that support the short and long term goals of the Department of Primary Care
7. Execute special programs as appropriate
8. Prepare and deliver teaching sessions (live and remote) that meet or exceed national and Touro standards
9. Work closely with other TouroCOM campuses, Primary Care Faculty, and Staff as appropriate
10. Support all courses and activities in the Department of Primary Care
11. Participate in instruction, service (community and school-based), and scholarly activity
12. Fulfill committee assignments as assigned by the Campus Dean
13. Satisfactory completion of Faculty Development via TouroCOM and Touro College Faculty Development and Evaluation Policy
14. Complies and is aware of the Faculty and Employee responsibilities as specified by the respective Touro Policies, manuals, handbooks, etc
15. Complies with and is familiar with FERPA polices
16. Other duties as assigned by Associate-Chair and the Deans
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent medical degree required
- Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) preferred
- AOA or ACGME Board Certification preferred
- Active and unrestricted license for independent medical practice in New York State as a Physician preferred
- Experience in Primary Care or related specialties (example: family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, or emergency medicine)
- Experience in medical simulation
- Experience teaching in the undergraduate/pre-clerkship medical education setting
- Experience in administration and leadership
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Required Computer Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to learn and utilize hardware, software, and simulation capture programs (including but not limited to Exam Soft program, iClicker, Learning Space/Simulation, LEAP).
- Proficiency in utilizing cloud storage, e.g., Box.

- Demonstrated proficiency in communication (written and verbal)
- Exceptional analytical, problem solving skills, collaboration and matrix management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including via emails and remote conferencing modalities
- Ability to teach

Working Conditions
- Extensive use of computers, task trainers, and simulators
