Overview
Touro University invites applications for a full-time 12-month faculty position in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program at our Long Island Campus. The primary responsibilities of this role include teaching, scholarship, professional service, student advisement, and participation in departmental and college wide committees. Join our collaborative, supportive faculty in preparing the DPTs of the future. Candidates with qualifications in all areas of physical therapy practice and teaching expertise will be considered. Rank will be commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Teaching:
- Delivering high-quality instruction to students in various physical therapy courses
- Designing and developing course content that aligns with the program's objectives and industry standards
- Facilitating engaging and interactive learning experiences that encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and evidence-based practice
- Evaluating student performance, providing constructive feedback, and assessing learning outcomes effectively
- Maintaining currency by participating in workshops, conferences, and seminars to enhance teaching strategies and maintain professional credentials
- Student Advising:
- Advising students in each cohort throughout the academic year with regular meetings which may include mentoring students professionally, academically, and in scholarly pursuits as well as in preparation of goals prior to a clinical experience
- Professional Service:
- Serving on DPT departmental committees and university-wide committees, APTA and ACAPT professional service also encouraged
- Scholarship:
- Engaging in a sustained program of scholarly activity, including peer-reviewed publications, and presentations
- Leading and mentoring student groups in faculty-driven research projects
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- Academic Doctorate (Ph.D., Ed.D., D.Sc.,) in Physical Therapy or related area. Doctoral candidates will also be considered.
- Previous teaching experience in higher education is highly preferred.
- Five years of clinical experience preferred.
- Record of scholarship as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and external partners.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Willingness to embrace innovative teaching methodologies and technology to enhance student learning experiences.
- Strong knowledge base in specialty area(s).
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the enthusiasm and motivation to contribute to the growth and development of the Physical Therapy program.
Certifications/Licensures
- Applicants teaching Physical Therapy content must be licensed or eligible for physical therapy licensure in New York.
- American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) certification preferred in area of teaching expertise
Travel
- Occasional travel is required for site visits or a meeting at our Manhattan campus 1-2x per year.
