Overview

The Department of Anatomy at the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM) seeks a 12-month, full-time, exempt Instructor/Assistant Professor of Anatomy at the Middletown, NY campus. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., D.O., M.D., or equivalent) or a master's degree with two years of relevant teaching experience. Teaching responsibilities include human gross anatomy at TouroCOM Middletown for osteopathic medical students. This role requires a balance between teaching, research, and service.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a content expert and teach within the Gross Anatomy course for osteopathic medical students.
  • Additional teaching assignments include neuroanatomy for osteopathic medical students; teaching opportunities are available for the MS in Interdisciplinary Studies in Biological and Physical Sciences Gross Anatomy and Neuroanatomy courses.
  • Engage actively in supporting the teaching mission of the department, fostering an inclusive and diverse learning environment.
  • Participate in faculty development, campus committee membership and leadership, curricular development activities, applicant interviews, and student advising as assigned.
  • Perform independent research/scholarly activity and serve as a mentor for student research activities.
  • Contribute to the academic mission of the University through professional service at the Campus and University level and in professional organizations at the local, regional, national, and international level.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Doctoral degree in anatomy or other terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., D.O., or M.D.), or a master's degree in anatomy with two years of relevant teaching experience.
  • Experience with human donor dissection required; experience with plastinated specimens, virtual anatomy resources, or teaching neuroanatomy a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge required to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as computer literacy (MS Office Suite, online learning management systems [Canvas experience a plus], Polly Everywhere, Zoom).
  • Must be able to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team, without direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to relevant rules and regulations (i.e. FERPA, HIPAA).
  • Flexibility with respect to the performance of other duties as needed/assigned for the COM.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including via emails and remote conferencing modalities.
  • Ability to teach.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to adapt to a growing and changing environment.

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook.
  • Proficiency in use of IOS and Pad based software programs.
  • Understanding and ability to utilize a variety of computer software and hardware across a variety of platforms (ex: Simulators, iPads, windows).

Travel

  • This position is an in-person position at the Middletown, NY campus. Occasional travel to the branch campus location in Harlem, NY may be required.
  • Travel to professional academic conferences, as approved by the Department Chair.

Working Conditions

  • Extensive use of computers, task trainers, and simulators.

Maximum Salary

USD $87,700.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $70,160.00/Yr.
