Overview

The Touro University Graduate School of Social work is seeking candidates for a full-time (10-month appointment) Assistant Professor in Social Work, with experience in delivering distance education in an asynchronous and synchronous format. Ideal candidates will have knowledge of and experience working in the Observant Jewish communities. Experience should include curriculum development, education best practices, instruction/teaching in asynchronous courses, student advising, mentoring and supporting adjunct faculty and colleagues, ability to engage students in the online environment both in and out of the classroom. A typical workday will entail teaching, advising, and meetings. Faculty carry a 21-credit workload per academic year and are expected to teach, advise students, and engage in scholarship. Faculty participate in MSW program activities as needed (orientation, community days, committee meetings, and curriculum development), and will also contribute on departmental and university-wide committees.

The school provides students with a social work education that offers a theoretical and evidence-based foundation in generalist social work, as well as advanced knowledge and skills for effective clinical social work. This education prepares graduates for leadership roles in clinical social work practice with varied populations in the contemporary service delivery environment.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Teaching asynchronous/synchronous and in person courses according to workload assignments
  • Service to the Department, University, and Community Research/Scholarship, including publication, social work academic conferences, & funded research
  • Academic advising for students in distance education
  • Participate in standing and ad-hoc committees Participate in program events, such as orientation and graduation
  • Build, strengthen, and support community relations
  • Highly engaged and responsive during stipulated work hours

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Applicants must have a Master of Social Work degree and a doctorate in a related field of study; a Ph.D. in Social Work or a DSW degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience required
  • Some social work higher education administrative experience preferred
  • Instructional course design experience preferred
  • Student advising experience preferred, but not required
  • Experience with clinical simulation technology and artificial intelligence experience a plus

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to create a respectful classroom environment and attend to cultural sensitivities, particularly with observant Jewish students.
  • Experience with Canvas and electronic learning management systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, & Zoom

Certifications/Licensures

  • Social work licensure required

Travel

  • As needed.

Maximum Salary

USD $90,000.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $72,000.00/Yr.
