More than 300,000 children and teenagers in Israel are currently at risk - living on the streets, facing violence, neglect, abandonment, and trauma. For over 40 years, Shanti House has given tens of thousands of them a warm home, therapy, and a sense of family: a safe place to sleep, heal, and discover that there are adults who believe in them.

American Friends of Shanti House supports this mission in the United States by building awareness, community, and philanthropic support for Shanti House's work.

Overview

American Friends of Shanti House is seeking a part-time Community Connector & Grant Writer in the U.S.

This person will help us build relationships with funders, philanthropists, and communities that care deeply about Israel and at-risk youth. We are particularly interested in candidates who are well connected within American Jewish communities and/or pro-Israel Christian communities, including evangelical Christian networks.

The ideal candidate is a natural connector who enjoys opening doors, building relationships, organizing community activity, and introducing people to a meaningful cause - while also being a strong, confident writer capable of researching and developing grant opportunities.

Who You Are

• Well connected within Jewish and/or pro-Israel Christian communities and networks in the U.S.

• Strong personal connection to Israel and its people

• Comfortable developing relationships with donors, philanthropists, community leaders, foundations, and connectors

• Organized, discreet, warm, and comfortable asking for support

• Self-starter, entrepreneurial, and comfortable working independently

• Strong research and writing skills

• Passionate about supporting at-risk youth and nonprofit work

• Experience with nonprofits, fundraising, grant writing, philanthropy, community organizing, churches, Federations, foundations, or similar networks is a plus

• Authorized to work as an independent contractor in the U.S.

• Hebrew is a plus

• Prior management or nonprofit experience is a plus

What You'll Do

• Map and grow networks of relevant contacts, communities, foundations, and potential supporters

• Identify and cultivate relationships with Jewish philanthropists, family foundations, pro-Israel Christian donors and networks, and other potential funders

• Research foundations and grant opportunities

• Prepare LOIs, grant proposals, applications, and supporting materials

• Help organize small parlor meetings, donor conversations, presentations, and community gatherings

• Plan and support community events designed to increase awareness of Shanti House and generate philanthropic support

• Introduce Shanti House and its work to relevant Jewish, Christian, philanthropic, and community networks

• Open doors through existing relationships and develop new connections

• Represent Shanti House at appropriate community events, conferences, and speaking opportunities

• Maintain and manage a pipeline of prospects, proposals, relationships, and follow-ups in the organization's CRM

• Work with American Friends of Shanti House, its Board, and the Shanti House team in Israel to advance fundraising priorities

• Learn Shanti House's model, impact, and stories and help communicate them effectively to U.S. audiences

Details

• Part-time consultant / independent contractor

• Approximately 15 hours per week, with a flexible schedule and occasional evening meetings or events

• US$4,000 monthly retainer

• Potential discretionary performance recognition based on overall contribution and performance
