Job Summary

The Rashi School, the Boston Area’s Reform Jewish Independent School, serving students in grades Pre-K-8 seeks a Theater Technical Manager for the 2023-2024 school year. Reporting to the Theater Director, the Technical Theater Manager is responsible for the daily technical operations of The Rashi School Theater and for providing technical support for various school events. The Technical Theater Manager also provides technical theater instruction for a variety of student groups. Position Responsibilities:

  • Teach two weekly middle school electives each trimester.
  • Provide technical support to Chorus, community block events, and Kabbalat Shabbat each week.
  • Provide After School instruction on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons.
  • Operate, maintain, and safeguard the technical assets of the school’s performance spaces, including supervising the use of lighting, audio, and communications equipment, set design, and the use and maintenance of facilities.
  • Determine the necessary technical support, such as lighting, audio, staging, and special needs, necessary for events and performances presented at the facilities (and at times other spaces) in advance of production dates.
  • Be responsible for set-up, maintenance, and operation of lighting, projection, rigging and audio systems for theater, dance, music, and other school productions and projects; assist guest designers with technical matters as appropriate.
  • Work with Theater Director and others to contract third party help as necessary in support of various productions.
  • Provide technical support for school performances, productions, and presentations.
  • Supervise and assist with set and stage construction and management as necessary, in conjunction with the Theater Director.
  • Support and instruct student and volunteer technical staff for individual shows.
  • Assist with the preparation and control technology inventory and order specialized supplies.
  • Make recommendations to school leadership regarding capital purchases of technical equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Assistant Heads of School.

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Experience working in Theaters and Performing Arts Facilities
  • Audio /Visual experience required.
  • Experience in an educational environment is preferred.
  • Experience with counter-weight rigging systems preferred.
  • Excellent technical abilities in the planning, construction, use of materials and techniques in the Theatre.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work around and interact with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and staff members in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently and effectively within a team-oriented, fast-paced work environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry 50-75 pounds, stoop, kneel, crawl, crouch, and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, and use hands to handle objects or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to work at heights and in challenging Theater environments.
