The position is full-time and based at the Foundation’s Brookline, Massachusetts office.
About the Executive Leadership Program
A program of the Mandel Institute for Nonprofit Leadership, the Executive Leadership program prepares outstanding midcareer professionals for senior leadership roles in Jewish communal organizations in the United States and Canada. Established in 2018, the program has graduated 55 fellows in three cohorts; Cohort IV is currently underway, and recruitment has begun for Cohort V.
The program features four in-person seminars, skills-focused short courses, individual mentoring and peer-led practice groups. Three seminars are taught by the program’s multidisciplinary faculty and held at the Foundation’s office in Brookline. One seminar is held in Israel and features joint learning with fellows of the Mandel Foundation’s Israel-based programs. The curriculum is organized around three strands:
- Social Analysis: Fellows analyze trends in North American Jewish communities and Israeli society, and deliberate together about salient opportunities and challenges.
- Visions of Jewish Life: Fellows examine ideas that animate contemporary Jewish life in diverse settings, and sharpen their own visions of the Jewish future.
- Nonprofit Management: Fellows develop their leadership signatures and stories, and learn ways to catalyze organizations to achieve vision-guided change.
About the Program Director’s Role
The Program Director is responsible for ongoing development, implementation and improvement of all aspects of the Executive Leadership Program, including the following:
- Supervision of program faculty, advisers and consultants, including recruitment and evaluation
- Development of program curriculum with the aim of ongoing innovation and improvement
- Management of program recruitment and admissions processes
- Teaching within one of the program’s core curricular strands
- Coordination with Mandel Institute/Mandel Foundation colleagues on all aspects of program design, development and implementation
- Communication about the program with candidates, partner organizations, and the broader public
- Collaboration with colleagues at Mandel Foundation-Israel in the development and implementation of the program’s Israel seminar
- Support as needed for the Mandel Foundation’s philanthropic work in the areas of Jewish Life (including the Jewish nonprofit ecosystem) and Leadership Development
The Program Director will report to the Mandel Foundation’s Director of Programs. The Mandel Institute team works according to a hybrid schedule, with the option of two remote days each week. The position includes an extensive package of benefits.
The ideal candidate for this position will be a scholar, an educator or a nonprofit executive with at least ten-years of relevant experience. Additional desirable skills and experiences include:
- Knowledge of the Jewish nonprofit landscape
- Familiarity with the field of leadership development
- A capacity to teach at a high level in one of the program’s core curricular strands
- A record of thought leadership in fields related to Jewish life or leadership development
- Experience leading teams and managing programs
- Collegiality and capacity to work well as a team member
- A capacity to contribute to other Mandel Institute programs, including in the fields of Jewish education and Jewish arts and culture
