High School English Teacher

The Leffell School is a cutting-edge K–12 Jewish independent school serving more than 850 students on two campuses in Westchester County, NY, 30 minutes north of New York City. We are seeking a High School English Teacher to begin in August 2026 for the 2026-2027 school year.

Position Overview:

We are looking for an outstanding, passionate, and dedicated High School English Teacher to join our collaborative faculty. The ideal candidate is an expert in literature and composition who can inspire students to reach their full potential through innovative instruction and meaningful mentorship.

The successful candidate will demonstrate mastery and experience in the following areas:

  • The Craft of Writing: Instruction in various modes of composition, from analytical essays to creative narratives, with a focus on student voice and structural clarity.

  • Literary Analysis: Facilitating deep engagement with American and British literature, encouraging students to connect classic and contemporary texts to broader historical and ethical contexts.

  • Communication Skills: Cultivating student confidence through the instruction of public speaking, rhetoric, and a strong foundational grasp of grammar and mechanics.

  • Pedagogical Innovation: Designing student-centered lesson plans that utilize diverse instructional methods to reach all learners.

  • Collaboration: Working closely with the English Department and the broader faculty to align curriculum and support student growth within our valued teacher-parent-student partnership.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English required

  • Master’s Degree in Teaching of English preferred

Compensation and Benefits:

• Pay Rate: $65,000-$90,000

• Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, FSA, Long-term and Short-term disability Insurance, Accident and Critical Illness Insurance, 403b
