Magazine Editor & Marketing Associate

Salary Range: $40,000 – 45,000
The Greensboro Jewish Federation builds community among the Jewish people of Greensboro, assuring continuity from generation to generation. Recognizing that each Jew is responsible, one for another, the Federation promotes the welfare of the Jewish people in our community, in Israel, and worldwide. Locally, the Federation offers programming, networking and social events, scholarships and grants; brokers community relations; advocates for Israel; and organizes city-wide religious observances and celebrations.
Position Summary:
The Magazine Editor & Marketing Associate plays a key role in telling the story of the Greensboro Jewish Federation through both print and digital communications, combining strong writing, editorial, and graphic design skills.
This position leads the production of Shalom Greensboro, the Federation’s quarterly magazine, overseeing editorial planning, writing and editing content, coordinating contributors, and working collaboratively on design and production. The role also contributes to the Federation’s broader marketing efforts through social media, email campaigns, event promotion, website content, and graphic design for print and digital communications.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic communicator who enjoys wearing many hats—someone who is equally comfortable writing and editing as creating visually compelling materials. They have a strong eye for design, are detail-oriented and collaborative, and can manage multiple projects and deadlines while ensuring all marketing materials reflect the Federation’s mission, voice, and brand.
Key Responsibilities:
Shalom Greensboro Magazine
- Oversee the magazine production process from concept through publication in collaboration with the Director of Marketing and Design. Includes organizing content for layout, coordinating cover photography, circulating proofs, and obtaining final approvals.
- Serve as staff lead for the Shalom Greensboro Editorial Board. Includes facilitating meetings, recruiting members, maintaining meeting records, and developing editorial themes and publication timelines.
- Write, edit, and curate magazine content. Includes producing original articles, interviewing sources, and photographing community events. Cultivate relationships with Shalom Greensboro contributors to secure article submissions and provide substantive editing to ensure adherence to editorial standards.
- Reach out to existing and prospective businesses and community partners to solicit Magazine ad sales and work directly with advertisers to obtain commitments, payment, and artwork.
- Maintain editorial quality and audience engagement. Includes managing reader feedback, updating the Shalom Greensboro Style Guide, monitoring trends in magazine publishing and audience engagement to strengthen content strategy and expand the magazine’s impact.
Marketing and Communications
- Create event graphics for digital platforms (website, social media, email) and print materials (invitations, programs, signage).
- Attend and photograph Federation events when needed.
- Help create, edit, and publish social media content in alignment with Federation marketing goals and brand standards.
- Create and distribute email campaigns through Constant Contact.
- Update websites, including content and layout adjustments.
Other Responsibilities
- Support the Director of Marketing and Design with administrative tasks as needed.
- Contribute to special projects and cross-functional tasks that support the advancement of the Greensboro Jewish Federation’s mission.
- Serve as lead proofreader for print and digital communications, ensuring accuracy in grammar, spelling, and style.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in writing, editing, communications, or marketing (internship or volunteer experience considered).
- Strong knowledge of graphic design and software (including Canva).
- Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
- Ability to proofread and edit content thoroughly, with care and attention to detail, correcting for punctuation, grammar, spelling, and proper use of the AP Style of writing.
- Self-motivated; excellent organizational skills; ability to set priorities and meet various deadlines simultaneously.
- Comfortable working occasional nights and weekends.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a small, collaborative environment, and effectively interact with all levels of management, community leaders, donors, and volunteers.
- Passionate about serving the needs of and continuous learning about trends in the Jewish community.
Preferences:
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Knowledge of Jewish culture, traditions, and community organizations
- Familiarity with the Greensboro Jewish Federation and the local Jewish community
