The Jewish Federations of North America (“JFNA”) consist of 141 Jewish Federations and dozens of Network communities which collectively raise and distribute more than $3 billion annually to support flourishing Jewish life and the needs of the Jewish people in their home communities and around the world. The Jewish Federation system, among the top 10 charities on the continent, leads the largest network of volunteer and professional leaders who build and sustain Jewish communities that are healthy, safe, caring, welcoming and inclusive, educated and engaged, involved in the broader community, and deeply connected to Israel and the global Jewish people.

About Government Relations

The Government Relations team at Jewish Federations of North America works closely with federal and state governments to advance policies that support the Jewish community. We focus on a range of issues, including antisemitism, Israel, healthcare, charitable giving, kosher food access, housing, and education. Furthermore, we regularly host local Federations in Washington, D.C. for fly-ins, providing them the opportunity to advocate directly on Capitol Hill for policies that impact their communities.

Position Summary

Government Relations interns will play a key role in supporting various projects, including attending Congressional hearings, prospecting for grants, researching policy and implementation practices, assisting in conference and meeting planning, proofreading external documents, and organizing resource materials. This internship is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and motivated individual to gain experience in nonprofit advocacy work in a bipartisan manner, while contributing to the organization's mission-driven initiatives and fostering professional growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in lobby efforts on the Hill by supporting lobbyists work in the following portfolios: Security, Antisemitism & Israel, Health and Human Services.
  • Support our fly-in program by developing resources and coordinating meetings and speakers for advocacy days.
  • Assist in the planning/implementation of briefings, webinars, meetings, and conferences.
  • Draft and edit communication for elected officials, including reviewing for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to organizational standards.
  • Conduct research and compile legislative resource banks.
  • Update legislative trackers and other internal tools.

This internship will be 40 hours a week for 8 weeks within the time frame of approximately June 1 -July 31, 2026. This internship will take place in JFNA’s DC office.
