Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey is a non-profit philanthropic organization dedicated to creating a vibrant Jewish community in northern New Jersey. Federation cares for those in need, deepens engagement in Jewish life, and strengthens the bonds among Jews in northern New Jersey, in Israel, and around the world. Our primary functions are community planning and allocations, financial resource development, and leadership development.

Position Summary:
The Senior Director, Jewish Engagement Collective, leads community engagement and relationship-building initiatives across all ages and backgrounds within the Jewish community. This position envisions, implements, and evaluates relational and experiential programs; supervises engagement staff; and builds partnerships to amplify belonging, leadership, and Jewish life.

Core Responsibilities:

• Strategic Leadership:
Guide annual and long-term engagement strategy, oversee data-driven impact assessment, and ensure programs are aligned with communal priorities and organizational values.

• Team Management:
Supervise and coach professional staff; conduct orientation, training, and performance evaluations while nurturing a collaborative, mission-centered team culture.

• Relational Outreach:
Build trusting relationships through intentional outreach, acting as a connector to Jewish opportunities and services—especially for new community members and those underrepresented in Jewish life.

• Program Design & Execution:
Develop and deliver impactful, innovative Jewish experiences that foster connections and participation for individuals, families, and/or underserved groups.

• Partnership & Advocacy:
Liaise with synagogues, agencies, local programs, and external partners to strengthen collaborative projects and further the organization’s mission in the broader community.

• Leadership Development:
Identify, mentor, and engage prospective lay leaders and volunteers; facilitate leadership training and support their placement within organizational committees.

• Evaluation & Communications:
Track outcomes and engagement metrics, evaluating both successes and challenges to continually improve upon engagement opportunities and connections.

• Budget & Grant Oversight:
Collaborate in budget development and management; oversee grant applications and reporting related to engagement programs.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Jewish Professional Leadership, Jewish Education, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.

• 10+ years progressive experience in Jewish communal engagement and leadership.

• Demonstrated success in relationship-building, program innovation, and team management.

• Deep knowledge of Jewish culture, traditions, and values.

• Excellent communication, strategic, and organizational skills—including digital literacy and comfort with data-driven decision-making.

• Ability to manage multiple projects, lead diverse teams, and thrive in a mission-driven, collaborative environment.

• Sense of humor and flexibility.

• Strong personal commitment to the mission of Federation.

• Flexibility to work some evenings and Sundays, as needed.
