About the Jewish Federation & Foundation of Northeast Florida

The Jewish Federation and Foundation of Northeast Florida has been building, sustaining, and connecting Jewish Communities in Northeast Florida, Israel, and worldwide for over 65 years. Annually raising and distributing over $2.2 million, the Federation protects and enhances the well-being of the Jewish and general community through the values of tikkun olam (repairing the world), tzedakah (charity and social justice), and Torah (learning).

About the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC)

The JCRC, a standing committee of the JFFNEFL, serves as the public policy and advocacy arm of the organized Jewish community. The JCRC educates and engages the community on key international, federal, state, and local issues, builds consensus, establishes relationships, and builds coalitions with ethnic, religious, governmental, and civic organizations and the media. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the JCRC Director is a key member of the Federation & Foundation Team and provides important leadership to the organization, working closely with the JCRC Chair and committee, agency, and synagogue partners. The Director thrives on deepening connections within and outside the Jewish community, stewarding leadership, and is a passionate advocate for Israel and Jewish life.

Specifically, the JCRC:

  • Spearheads the development of the public policy agenda and vets and educates on issues and current events to foster understanding and cooperation with in the Jewish and broader community.
  • Advocates at all levels of government for public resources to support the activities of the Federation and partnership agencies, Israel’s safety and security and other issues of priority concern.
  • Builds relationships and mutual understanding with ethnic, racial, faith-based, and civic groups.
  • Assist local school boards and parents to address issues relation to Jewish holiday observances and representing balanced views about Israel and the Middle East in curriculum and materials. Support community partners and individuals when needed as a resource to combat BDS and any anti-Israel, antisemitic activity in the community and on campuses.
  • Harnesses the power and resources of the Jewish community in supporting its social justice agenda;
  • Promotes through education and action, strong protection and support for Israel and the Jewish people at home and throughout the world.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Liaising and undertaking advocacy and public policy work with the Jewish Federation of North American’s Washington Office, and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs where aligned. Ensuring an effective voice for the Northeast Florida Jewish community within these organizations.
  • Monitoring local, national, and international events for Jewish priorities and Israel advocacy and working with leadership and community members to set policy, provide education, and mobilize community actions.
  • Working with the JCRC leadership to cultivate relationships and represent the interests of the Jewish community with religious, nonprofit, civic, corporate, political, ethnic, and academic arenas, as well as the media.
  • Engaging and working with local Jewish communal organizations, agencies, synagogues, and community members to advance the objectives of the organized Jewish community.
  • Planning and executing community events.
  • Support new and existing grants providing information and reporting as needed.
  • Leading the day-to-day operations of the JCRC including administrative duties of management, budget planning and adherence, communications, and committee work.
  • Provide necessary oversight and staff support for all JCRC. This includes preparation of meeting notices, program announcements, minutes, brochures, general correspondence, and reports request by the JCRC.
  • Prepare, manage, and administer, with the consultation of JCRC volunteer leadership and CEO, an annual departmental budget and program plan for each fiscal year. Responsible for all aspects of fundraising for JCRC.

Other Responsibilities

  • Ensure commitment from the JCRC leadership to the broader Jewish Federation & Foundation and its relationship development, leadership, and investment mission.
  • Recruit, train, and engage volunteer leadership for the Federation & Foundation and JCRC.
  • Undertake other assignments as may be requested by the CEO of the Federation & Foundation.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Preferred)

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a non-profit, advocacy organization, or government agency.
  • Experience working with advocacy organizations or government agencies is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the Jewish community and its institutions is preferred.

  • Ability to work well with volunteer leadership and community professionals.
  • Ability to forge and maintain strong relationships with local, state, and federal public officials.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Fundraising and marketing experience.
  • Ability to conceive of, design, plan, market and execute public events.
  • Ability to juggle many projects simultaneously.
  • Deep knowledge of Israeli history and current affairs.
  • Well organized and responsive.
  • Creative and strategic thinker.
  • Available for limited travel, and active participation in programs that occur outside of a traditional work schedule.
