Director of Community Affairs - Sarasota, FLReports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)Position Summary: Leads JFSM’s efforts to strengthen its voice, influence, and partnerships across the broader community and donor base. Focuses on advocacy, coalition building, and public positioning, ensuring the Federation is a respected leader on issues impacting the Jewish community and the broader region. Acts as strategist, communicator, crisis manager, relationship broker, and donor steward; often serves as spokesperson with guidance of the CEO.Key ResponsibilitiesPublic Affairs & Advocacy: collaborate with CEO on public affairs strategy and lead implementation focused on combating antisemitism, supporting Israel, and advancing key priorities; lead government relations (local/state/national); monitor emerging issues and recommend actions; build and sustain coalitions with interfaith, nonprofit, and civic partners; lead coalition efforts around shared priorities; strengthen engagement with non-Jewish audiences; manage crisis communications; coordinate across internal teams; maintain strict confidentiality and professional boundaries.Community Engagement & Outreach: partner with C-Suite on outreach initiatives; prioritize stakeholder engagement; align outreach with programming, communications, and donor engagement; support community-facing initiatives.Communications & Messaging Alignment: ensure consistent messaging across public-facing efforts; contribute to speechwriting and briefing materials; serve as a visible ambassador.Donor Stewardship (30%): manage a portfolio of top donors to increase investment; leverage interactions to solidify donor connection; identify potential funders and partners over time (grants and other commitments).Qualifications: passion for mission; personal experience with Jewish values/culture/traditions; strong relationship management skills; bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, journalism, political science or related (advanced degrees a plus); 5–7+ years in public affairs/government/community relations/advocacy (nonprofit preferred); some knowledge of donor stewardship (training available); strong writing, editing, and strategic messaging skills; strict confidentiality; success building coalitions and partnerships; understanding of issues related to antisemitism, Israel, and Jewish communal priorities; excellent communication and strategic thinking; ability to reprioritize amid fast-breaking issues; professional discipline in messaging and advocacy; organizational and leadership skills; collaborative; proficiency in CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Blackbaud) and Microsoft Office; knowledge of legislative processes/regulatory environments/public policy trends; experience in crisis management, stakeholder engagement, and media relations.Application Instructions: Location: 580 McIntosh Rd., Sarasota, FL 34232. Salary and benefits: Base salary range of $90,000 – $110,000; benefits include 4% employer 401k contribution plus up to 3% match (potential total employer contribution = 7%); relocation bonus may be provided.
