EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Job Description

Regular Work Schedule: Full-time, exempt, Monday-Friday with schedule flexibility.

Evening/weekend/after-hours work may be required. Primary work location is in the JCFW office but may include work from a remote setting.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director (ED) is the chief strategist, innovator and ambassador responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Jewish Community Foundation of the West, an organization which exists to enhance charitable giving, facilitate Jewish philanthropy both locally and worldwide, and build permanent financial resources to safeguard and strengthen organizations and community initiatives that serve the Jewish families of Northern California and regional states. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is the person ultimately responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission, programmatic and financial objectives and its adherence to its core vision.

CORE AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Philanthropic Engagement: Donors are primarily individuals and families in the regional Jewish community. The ED spearheads development efforts to identify and cultivate new prospects, usually in person with prospective donors, as well as by telephone and email.

Organizational Leadership and Strategy: Fosters an organizational culture that works collaboratively, develops and considers options, selects and follows through on an agreed course of action and evaluates effectiveness of programs and activities.

Community Outreach and Partnerships: Serves as the foremost ambassador and spokesperson for the Jewish Community Foundation of the West, engaging with the regional Jewish community to build collaborations and partnerships that support the community.

KEY DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

• Board Engagement: The ED prepares bi-monthly Board meeting agendas and materials for the Board President’s review and approval, as well as for any additional committee meetings of the Board. Supporting a strong Board of Directors includes seeking diverse new members and building Board competency to ensure a strong, capable Board with a high level of engagement.

• Sound Business Practices: Works with the President of the Board, the Vice-Presidents and the Treasurer responsible for appropriate fiscal management to ensure and maintain sound financial practices. In coordination with the President and Treasurer, prepares an annual operating budget for review and approval of the full Board. Reviews monthly financial statements for accuracy. Approves/signs all payments and manages bank and investment accounts, in consultation with the Board Treasurer/Investment Committee, as needed. Oversees the development of policies and procedures, organizational and financial plans and ensures compliance with funders and auditors.

• Communications: Oversees all marketing and outreach activities, ensuring that a marketing plan and communications calendar are inclusive of, but not limited to, a well-maintained website, social media posts, e-marketing, press releases, community engagement and more are in place and thoughtfully and strategically executed.

• Fund Development: Develop and maintain donor prospecting/stewardship/recognition, e-philanthropy, direct mail programs and external opportunities.

• Supervision: Recruit, hire, train, evaluate and supervise exempt and non-exempt staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. A bachelor's or master's degree with five years of supervisory experience is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and/or 10 years of relevant experience may be considered.

2. Proven track record leading non-profit organizations with diverse stakeholders and performance and outcome-based measures.

3. Robust marketing, public relations and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide and diverse audience.

4. Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.

5. Demonstrated leadership, coaching and relationship management experience.

6. Integrity, a positive attitude, mission-driven and self-directed.

POSITION LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

1. Current California Driver’s License.

2. Proof of automobile insurance.

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL AND NON-PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. This position is located in an office environment, with frequent interruptions and noise, with conversations over the phone or in person with visitors

2. This position may frequently work remotely from a home office as organizational circumstances dictate.

3. Regularly sit (up to 50%), primarily at desk or in meetings.

4. May be part of an outdoor event exposed to the elements.

5. May drive a vehicle from one location to another for multiple hours primarily for professional appointments and special events.

6. Frequent repetitive hand motion, grasping and fine hand manipulation up to six hours per day, primarily for keyboarding and handwriting.

7. Speak, hear, write and clearly understand face-to-face, written and telephone communication.

8. Frequent analysis of data and information to make logical and relevant judgments and decisions.

9. Frequently works positively, effectively and efficiently with internal and external customers in person, virtually, via email and over the phone.

The position is available immediately. The expected hiring range is $140,000 to $160,000 depending on qualifications. Benefits are yet to be determined.
