Position Summary
The JCC of Greater Columbus is seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Swim Team Coach to lead and grow our year-round youth swim program (ages 6–18) and develop a structured Masters Swim Team for adults. This is an exciting opportunity to help transform our established pre-competitive youth swim team into a USA Swimming-affiliated, competitive program that supports swimmers at every stage of development.
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic leader with USA Swimming experience, strong communication skills, and a passion for helping swimmers grow in skill, confidence, and teamwork.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Youth Swim Team (Ages 6–18)
- Develop and lead age-appropriate training plans focused on stroke technique, endurance, and competitive readiness
- In close partnership with the Aquatics Director, supervise all team operations including practice schedules, meet planning, swimmer evaluations, and goal setting
- Attend and coach swimmers at USA Swimming meets and local competitions
- Foster a positive, inclusive team environment focused on personal growth and sportsmanship
- Collaborate with the Aquatics Director to implement a long-term vision for a year-round, competitive swim team
Masters Swim Team (Adults)
- Design and lead structured practices for adult swimmers, including those training for fitness, triathlons, or competition
- Promote a welcoming environment for all skill levels
- Coordinate participation in local or regional Masters competitions
Additional Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor assistant swim coaches during practices, meets, and training events
- Maintain current USA Swimming and CPR/First Aid certifications
- Communicate regularly with swimmers, families, and staff regarding practice schedules, expectations, and performance updates
- Maintain accurate records for meet entries, times, attendance, and program progress
- Ensure all safety and training protocols are followed
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Ability to demonstrate and instruct all four competitive strokes in-water
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in humid, warm environments such as indoor pools
- Evening and weekend work required for practices and competitions

Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of youth coaching experience (ages 6–18); Head Coach or Lead Coach experience strongly preferred
- Current USA Swimming Coach Certification or ability to obtain before hire date
- Strong technical knowledge of all four competitive strokes
- Experience working with swimmers of varying ages and skill levels
- Ability to motivate and inspire youth and adult swimmers
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Available to work evenings and weekends for practices and meets
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building or expanding a competitive swimming program
- Familiarity with Team Unify and Meet Manager software
- ASCA Level 2 Certification or higher
- Previous experience coaching a Masters or adult swim program
