Position Summary:

The Catering Assistant supports the operations of the JCC’s catering department by assisting with food preparation, kitchen organization, and event setup. The role helps maintain food quality and cleanliness, working closely with the kitchen team to support successful events and programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with food preparation for internal and external catering events.
  • Help set up and break down events, including transporting food, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, storage, and prep areas.
  • Wash dishes, organize food and non-food inventory, and rotate stock as needed.
  • Receive and store food deliveries according to guidelines.
  • Support packing and loading of items for off-site catering.
  • Follow health department regulations and kosher standards.
  • Collaborate with the Chef and Catering Manager to ensure timely event support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Education – Minimum Required or Preferred:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Prior experience in a food service or catering setting preferred.

Experience – Minimum Required or Preferred:
At least 1 year of experience in food service, hospitality, or kitchen prep preferred.

Special Skills:
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of food safety practices; knowledge of Kashruth preferred.

Physical Abilities:
Able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, bend, and reach.

Schedule:
Primarily weekday hours with occasional evenings and weekends depending on catering needs. Flexibility required.
