Position Title: Bnai Mitzvah Coordinator

Reports To: Director of Education

Classification: Exempt

Role Overview

We have an opening for a full-time Bnai Mitzvah Coordinator who will have the opportunity to provide guidance and support to Temple Sholom of Chicago families as they prepare for their child’s B’nai Mitzvah. This front-facing role engages with B’nai Mitzvah families throughout this lifecycle process (4th- 7th grades), and oversees the entire program, event coordination, collaboration with Director of Education and Clergy, and on-site assistance at B’nai Mitzvahservices. The B’nai Mitzvah Coordinator leads outreach, strategy, data analysis, and program development that reflect Temple Sholom of Chicago’s values and mission, as well as improves member experience and engagement with the goal to grow and strengthen our synagogue community.

This is a full-time position with some evenings and weekend hours required to support the b’nai mitzvah programming. This role is a flexible, hybrid position offering the possibility for remote work two days a week.

In addition to coordinating the B'nai Mitzvah program, this position provides administrative and project support to the Executive Director. Responsibilities may include assisting with organizational communications, scheduling, data management, event logistics, reporting, and other administrative functions that support the synagogue's operations and strategic priorities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage details and logistics for each B’nai Mitzvah, including communication with families throughout the 3-year process, collecting information from families for the service, preparing cue sheets for each service, initiating meetings with families and clergy on a set timeline, keep the whole process moving so families feel prepared and informed.
  • Partner with professionals - work with the clergy, Education Department, tutors, and staff at Temple Sholom to ensure a thoughtful, clear, robust process for our families.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day of the entire B’nai Mitzvah program
  • Serve as the central liaison and the point of reference for all B’nai Mitzvah details, communication, and organization– including assigning dates, creating and gathering materials, calendaring, following up with families, etc.
  • In this front-line role, develop relationships with families to help respond to students' and families' needs.
  • In coordination with the Director of Education and the Cantor – assign, communicate, and on-board Bnai Mitzvah tutors
  • Schedule and attend walk-throughs (usually on Mondays late afternoon or evenings), attend Bnai Mitzvah services on Shabbat morning and afternoon as needed
  • create cue sheets and honors forms for each service
  • Provide support and assistance as requested by the TSOC Director of Education.
  • Provide administrative support to the Executive Director, including scheduling, meeting preparation, correspondence, document management, and project coordination.
  • Assist with staff-wide communications, data management, reporting, and operational initiatives as directed by the Executive Director.
  • Support congregational events, special projects, and strategic initiatives led by the Executive Director to enhance member engagement and organizational effectiveness.
  • Other duties as needed.

Requirements:

  • College degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong organizational, relational, and technological skills
  • Familiarity with core concepts of Reform Judaism
  • Familiarity with vocabulary and language of the Jewish people and culture
  • Available to work some nights and weekends throughout the year
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point)
  • Proficient in Customer Relationship Management software
  • Willingness to learn new systems and software, as necessary

Compensation & Benefits:

  • The salary range for this position is $50,000 - 55,000 based on experience.
