Temple Shalom is a vibrant Reform Jewish congregation in Newton, MA of 600 families. Our program and school calendars are full, and our members enjoy participating in a wide variety of activities and worship experiences.

The Event & Program Coordinator is central to the planning and successful execution of Shabbat gatherings, holidays, life-cycle events, community programs, and space rentals at Temple Shalom. This role will oversee event operations including managing inquiries, tours, contracts, calendars, staffing, supplies, logistics and other administrative tasks related to events and programs at Temple Shalom. 

Reporting to the Senior Director of Development & Membership, the Event & Program Coordinator serves as the primary point person for event logistics and on-site coordination, working closely with clergy, staff, volunteers, vendors, and congregants to ensure welcoming, meaningful, and well-run experiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

Event Sales & Management- Manage space rentals and cultivate new rental opportunities for external rentals (members and non-members). This includes: 

  • Respond to rental inquiries, give tours, and manage contracts and the event calendar.

  • Book and coordinate all external rentals, including floorplan designs, deliveries and pickups. 

  • Create enticing sales materials for prospective rentals. 

  • Oversee event equipment inventory.

  • Establish and oversee a preferred vendor list and serve as point of contact for all outside vendors.

Jewish Lifecycle &Temple Event Coordination - Collaborate with the lead staff on internal programs and events. This includes

  • Coordinate staffing plan for programs & events. 

  • Coordinate catering for internal programs & events.

  • Manage community kiddushes for all BMitzvahs (Saturdays) and coordinate. providing families with the recording of their BMitzvahs.

  • Coordinate with the Chief Operations Officer and Clergy on funerals.

  • Manage weekly Friday night Oneg preparation, including purchasing and setup, and develop and maintain an organized inventory system for Oneg and other event materials.

  • Support large Jewish Holiday events (High Holy Days, Purim, Passover, Chanukkah).

Ideal Candidate Brings

  • Two or more years experience in event management.

  • A service-oriented, warm, and professional demeanor.

  • Utmost discretion at all times.

  • Excellent communication skills in person, in writing, and on the phone.

  • Exemplary planning and time management skills.

  • Comfort working with the Google suite of applications and file management.

  • Ability to work independently, anticipate problems, and take initiative.

  • Ability to multi-task and manage numerous projects simultaneously with excellent attention to detail.

  • Some knowledge of Jewish customs and the Jewish calendar are a major plus.

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Compensation and Benefits

  • $60,000-62,000, commensurate with experience.

  • Health Insurance (Temple Shalom contributes to the monthly premium), currently subsidized at 73% by Temple Shalom.

  • Vacation, starting at 10 days per year.

  • All federal holidays and most Jewish holidays.
