Temple Shaaray Tefila in Bedford, NY seeks a part-time Event and Membership Coordinator who will provide crucial support in our ongoing work to connect and engage a growing community.

Temple Shaaray Tefila is a vibrant Reform Jewish congregation located in a suburban area 40 miles north of New York City. Since our founding in 1976, we have grown into one of the largest Jewish congregations in our area, serving approximately 600 geographically dispersed households from multiple towns/school districts. (

The Coordinator will support the planning and execution of temple programs and members’ lifecycle events. In doing so, they will work collaboratively with staff and volunteer leaders. This person is the front-line contact with our community, prospective and new members, and with other Jewish, cultural, and administrative-related organizations.

This position is ideal for an organized professional with strong interpersonal skills, who works well with others as part of a team in an active organization.

This is also a great role for someone who seeks part-time, flexible and meaningful work, with the opportunity to operate in a hybrid environment (both in the office and remotely) in consultation with the Executive Director and Senior Director of Membership Engagement. Occasional weekend work to support specific events and programs is required.

Key areas of responsibility are:

  • Be the point of contact for members/non-members having lifecycle events at the temple
  • Responsible for the coordination and organization of temple programs & events
  • Serve as primary liaison to maintenance staff and all building users, attending weekly meetings.
  • Reach out to existing and potential members and consistently contribute to an excellent member experience
  • Provide input to and utilize database to ensure our members feel known
  • Collaborate on and develop regular written communications regarding events, membership and engagement opportunities
  • Create and update membership materials
  • Develop and update content for website and social media
  • Be the first point of contact for phone and email inquiries, referring those to appropriate parties as needed
  • Provide administrative and communications support for the Executive Director and Senior Director of Membership Engagement.

Experience and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate - high proficiency in MS Office and ShulCloud or similar congregation/customer-support software, or the ability to quickly learn new software.
  • Self-motivated, ability to manage own time and drive efficiencies.
  • Demonstrated customer-service orientation, preferably in a membership or volunteer setting.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work
