Job description — Starting at $21 per hour. This is a full time, non-exempt position, reporting to the Director of Facilities. Overall the position is responsible for the cleanliness of the building and grounds areas, including cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining a museum-level quality of polish. The custodial staff member will also monitor on a daily basis the mechanical systems, thermostat systems, and safety and security systems of the building. Additionally, this position works as part of the facilities team in completing event and service setups. Role duties include but are not limited to: Cleaning (75%): Following the “Custodial Opening and Closing Procedures Checklist,” ensure the building is clean, hygienic, and welcoming; note building issues and equipment malfunctions to leadership. Maintain cleanliness in common areas, entryways, hallways, offices, conference rooms, stairwells, gathering spaces, bathrooms, kitchen, exterior, sacred spaces, and garden/courtyard. Empty trash, recycling, and compost; clean/disinfect restrooms and fixtures; clean and polish furniture; clean white boards; mop and vacuum floors; dust and spot clean walls and doors; clean/disinfect drinking fountains; clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces. Clean FJECC (Pre-school) and religious school classrooms with special attention to chemical use; special attention to clergy offices, sacred spaces, and lobby; regular cleaning/disinfection of professional kitchen; respond to building damage (e.g., water/debris) using wet pick-up vacuums; respond to crises following the Security Plan and serve on the Crisis Management Team as delegated. Event Set-ups and Maintenance (25%, dependent on team need): Provide event support and cleaning before/after; assist with setting up/breaking down tables and chairs; coordinate with facilities staff and Facilities Leader; report any event-related damage or loss; complete work assigned on the Shift Assignment Form; other duties as assigned. Required: Valid driver’s license; ability to lift 50 lbs.; effective communication skills; ability to read and understand written directions and safety signage; use email and department IT; work independently and as part of a team. Preferred: High school diploma or GED and two years’ relevant experience (non-English-speaking candidates welcome with the understanding of using translation tools). Working conditions: Remaining stationary for extended periods; traversing the Temple’s 110,000 sq ft; ascending/descending stairs; using scissor lift, ladders, and other tools; wearing PPE as required.
