Temple De Hirsch Sinai is the oldest and largest Jewish Reform temple in the Pacific Northwest. We provide worship, education, life cycle events, and service to more than 1300 families, individuals, and the broader community across two campuses. Our historic and progressive congregation plays a prominent role in both civic and interfaith religious life in the greater Seattle area.
OVERVIEW
The Tiyulim Coordinator leads our 7th Grade Field Trip Program, focusing on planning and executing local educational trips, fostering community among students, and ensuring smooth logistical operations. This role requires experience in informal or experiential education, a background in Judaism, and strong organizational and communication skills. The coordinator will work closely with the Director of Education and other staff members to create a meaningful and engaging program for students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The following duties are not exhaustive but are meant to provide a good representation of the job. Other duties may be assigned, and responsibilities may change as needed to meet the needs of the organization and the community.
Program Planning and Execution:
- Create a schedule for 13-15 local trips.
- Plan and lead educational trips.
- Research, schedule, confirm, and coordinate with speakers and other guests.
- Organize food (lunch and snacks) for each program.
- Submit setups for onsite programs weekly.
- Provide lesson planning and activity planning support for Tiyulim Teachers.
- Develop and implement weekly community-building activities.
- Create video/photo documentation for families and funders.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Meet with the Director of Education to review program details.
- Work with the Rabbi/Educator for each trip to plan and review trip details.
- Address student needs, behavior issues, and concerns.
- Send weekly email updates to parents.
- Collect participant feedback and conduct evaluations at the end of the year.
Logistics and Administration:
- Manage trip signups and organization.
- Reserve locations for trips.
- Manage transportation logistics.
- Order supplies for programs.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Temple will consider any combination of education and experience that provides a strong foundation for a person to be successful in the role.
- High School Diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Informal education/experiential education experience such as camps or trips.
- Experience working with middle school students.
- Jewish background and basic knowledge of Judaism.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with parents, vendors, and colleagues.
- Strong organizational skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Hours:
- 10-month position from July to May.
- 12-15 hours per week during the school year (on weeks with trips).
- 5-6 hours per week for planning and communication when no trips are scheduled.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting: Most administrative tasks are performed at a desk.
- Manual dexterity: Ability to use a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
- Visual acuity: Ability to read and interpret documents, emails, and computer screens.
- Hearing ability: Ability to communicate effectively via phone and in person.
- Occasional lifting: Ability to lift and carry items such as files, documents, or office supplies, typically up to 10-20 pounds.
- Mobility: Ability to move around the office to retrieve files, attend meetings, or assist colleagues. Moving throughout a building that is on many levels might be required. Walking for extended periods during trips.
Work Environment
- Varied Settings: Most of the work is performed within classrooms or at offsite locations, which may offer a variety of noise levels, accessibility options, and/or climates.
- Flexible Hours: The role offers some flexibility, with the ability to complete administrative work at various times during the week.
