TBS is a community of over 1,000 households and growing with an operating budget of $10.5M. Our team consists of an 80+ full-time clergy, education, and administrative staff, and a dedicated body of lay leaders and volunteers.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

At a time of exciting growth, Temple Beth Shalom seeks an Associate Director of Philanthropy to drive fund development and create meaningful ways for members to engage in philanthropic giving to the Temple community. Collaborating across clergy, staff, and lay leaders, this position is responsible for overseeing and implementing a variety of giving campaigns and events, as well as strengthening systems and processes for donor operations and management. Specifically, the Associate Director of Philanthropy will:

Lead fund development strategies that build and sustain a culture of philanthropy.

● Design and implement a comprehensive plan to meet the needs of TBS's growth goals and leverage multiple giving vehicles to broaden and deepen donor reach and engagement.

● Manage the end-to-end process for the annual campaign, special giving campaigns, and events that occur throughout the Jewish calendar year (e.g., High Holidays, Passover, annual gala, donor recognition events.)

● Craft compelling donor-facing communications, including authoring correspondence on behalf of others. In partnership with the Communications Manager, instill messaging that highlights the giving opportunities and impact stories into weekly newsletters, social media, and other temple communications.

● Provide thought partnership and direction to the senior clergy, senior leadership, and key lay leaders to ensure efficiency of their time spent on fundraising and position them to cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with donors.

● Leverage data and institutional knowledge to build a robust pipeline and develop donor-specific strategies for outreach and cultivation.

● In collaboration with the Senior Director of Operations & Engagement and board-appointed VP of Philanthropy, ensure that the board receives regular communications and engagement opportunities that help increase their involvement in philanthropy.

● Build individual relationships with members and convey warmth in all interactions so that donors and volunteers feel respected, nurtured, and appreciated.

● Over time and with support, develop strategies for endowment, planned, and legacy giving.

Oversee and manage smooth development operations and donor management.

● Establish and maintain processes and systems for development operations, ensuring that all donor information and touchpoints are tracked effectively in the Salesforce CRM. Optimize usage of Salesforce for prospecting, donor segmentation, and reporting.

● Work collaboratively across finance, communications, events, and IT staff. Partner with controller and accountant to ensure accurate and timely gift processing and track revenue.

● Create and manage to an annual calendar of philanthropy activities, inclusive of team meetings, board meetings, campaign milestones, and other deadlines.

● Wear multiple hats as a part of a fast-paced, busy organization, supporting the work of others and taking on new projects/tasks as needed and keeping an eye on the broader needs of the community.

You bring experience crafting appeal letters, stewardship communications, event collateral, and other donor-facing materials. You have a mind for operations and efficiency, and strategically use limited resources to create systems and processes. You are skilled at getting the most out of donor relationship management systems; Salesforce experience is a plus.

● You are a resourceful, flexible, and willing team player. You bring a “get it done” attitude and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You possess a strong learning orientation and thrive in a collaborative “roll up your sleeves” environment and are willing to pitch in wherever needed. You take a proactive approach to troubleshooting unexpected challenges.

WORK LOCATION AND HOURS

This position works onsite at Temple Beth Shalom in Needham, MA. Hours are typically 9am-5pm, with some evening, weekend, and holiday responsibilities. The temple is conveniently accessible from Route 95/128 or the MBTA commuter rail.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $95,000, along with a generous benefits package that includes medical insurance, dental insurance, flexible spending account, medical supplement plan, 4 weeks paid time off. For those interested, employees receive a free membership to the synagogue. Employees with Pre-K and school-aged children receive a discount off school tuition.
