Job Description

As Temple Beth Shalom’s first-ever Development Director, you will work alongside senior staff, clergy, and key lay leaders to create and implement structures and processes resulting in expanded philanthropic giving. Your primary focus will be to build out a strategic direction to ensure long-term financial sustainability by motivating and inspiring congregants to increase charitable contributions, developing and growing the congregation’s endowment, and creating new philanthropic programs aligned with our members’ passions. You must genuinely enjoy meeting new people, thrive in social situations, and know how to cultivate and strengthen relationships.

Essential Responsibilities

· Develop and implement culturally aligned strategic initiatives to grow individual giving revenue, including donor cultivation and recognition

· Create outstanding communications to inspire a deep sense of engagement to drive philanthropy

· Lead the implementation of a vibrant culture of philanthropy throughout the temple community

· Manage efforts to grow the temple’s endowment funds

· Meet or exceed established fundraising targets

· Cultivate board members and other key stakeholders as donors and ambassadors for charitable giving

· Collaborate to create donor-related marketing correspondences such as personalized e-mails, reports, newsletters, and other collateral

· Attend and assist in planning donor engagement gatherings

· Create reports on progress related to relationship building, stewardship tracking, and forecasting

Skills and Traits

· Knowledge and comfort of best practices related to development, including event-based, one-on-one solicitation, major gifts, cultivation, and recognition

· Able to inspire and lead key stakeholders in the achievement of development goals

· Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills with an emphasis on accuracy and quality

· Use personal confidence and creativity to establish credibility and influence donors

· Communicate clearly and informatively using varying mediums

· Strong knowledge of Jewish community, culture, and practices

· Proficient using Microsoft Office 365, Google Suite, Zoom, and other technology.

Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree required.

· Five or more years of experience cultivating and soliciting individual donors or equivalent experience, preferably in the not-for-profit sector

· Ability to work non-traditional hours, as needed, including weeknights and Sundays
