We are currently searching for a Staff Accountant who will be responsible for working with the Accounting Manager and Chief Financial Officer in all activities related to the recording of accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions and other accounting activities such as mailing statements, making bank deposits, account reconciliations, responding to member and vendor inquiries and accounts receivable collection calls.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, which include the following:
- Assist with the recording of accounts and pledge receivables including but not limited to Early Learning Center and Religious School registrations, Membership, Mausoleum, scholarships, contributions and caterer.
- Receive and record all Temple payments from all sources including mail, the Temple’s cloud-based accounts receivable system, the Temples point-of-sale systems and other websites
- Prepare and record bank deposits.
- Respond to members’ questions regarding their Temple accounts.
- Contact families with declined credit cards or other account related issues.
- Associate public transactions on Temple’s cloud-based accounts receivable system to member accounts
- Prepare and mail monthly statements to Temple members, Mausoleum owners, Early Learning Center families and donors’ who have pledge payments due.
- Support the reconciliation of deposits to the bank account for monthly reconciliation
- Prepare journal entry for payments received that are not recorded in Temple’s cloud-based accounts receivable system
- Assist with annual global billing
- Prepare and mail annual donor receipts.
- On a substitution basis, process accounts payables and reimbursements through the Temple’s online systems and ensure that every invoice has been coded and approved by the appropriate staff member. Confirm that there is no duplication of invoices received. Contact vendors to resolve accounts payable issues.
- On a substitution basis, process accounts payable payments. If necessary, mail payments and file associated back-up
- On a substitute basis, prepare and mail Form 1099 to relevant vendors.
- Other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting. This role must endure extended periods of sitting and extensive work at a computer, which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. This position is sometimes faced with interruptions and must interact with other staff on a regular basis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES·
Excellent verbal and written communications skills;· Excellent organizational, problem solving and analytical skills, and strong attention to detail;· Must possess an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles;· Must be a self-starter and possess the ability to work both independently and with a team;· Approachable with the ability to maintain positive relationships at all levels of the organization;· Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, and Mail merge;· Ability to utilize software and work with databases; some experience preferred;· Ability to juggle multiple projects with superb accuracy;· Ability to meet pressing deadlines and anticipate needs;· Ability to maintain composure and exercise good judgment even under extreme pressure;· Ability to maintain confidentiality; and· Ability to work occasionally on nights and weekends is a requirement.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- B.A. degree in accounting or in similar fields is preferred;
- 2+ years of relevant experience;
- Experience with QuickBooks is preferred;
- Experience working with the public via telephone and email;
- Experience with ShulCloud is highly desired.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret financial reports, documents such as budgets, financial statements, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to create and write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with managers, employees and at times with members of the organization. High attention to detail and strong organizational skills with the ability to perform multiple functions simultaneously in a timely manner.
TRAVEL
Some travel may be required between Beth El campuses.
