Key Aspects of the Role: What You Will Do1. Transformative Ritual Leadership- Create Welcoming, Joyful Services: Lead Shabbat, daily, and holiday services where members are excited to participate and sing along.- Bridge Tradition and Innovation: Collaborate with the Rabbi and lay leadership to root services in tradition while incorporating innovative melodies and styles.- Elevate Spirituality: Ensure prayer, music, and spirituality are meaningful and welcoming, incorporating your voice, instrumental accompaniment (when appropriate), and the community’s voice.2. B'nei Mitzvah and Educational Leadership- Empower Future Leaders: Play a central role in the B’nei Mitzvah program.- Program Oversight: Oversee and execute all B'nei Mitzvah tutoring with the Baal Koreh/Tutor, ensuring excellence in Torah and Haftarah chanting and service leading.3. Musical Program Development & Innovation- Expand Music’s Reach: Develop programs that extend music beyond ritual services.- Showcase Talent: Design and lead musical events, adult learning opportunities, and community programs.- Lead our Choir: Inspire, rehearse, and grow Kol Rinah (volunteer choir).4. Music Education for All Ages- Instill a Love of Jewish Music: Engage learners across Kaplan Nursery School, Jackson Religious School, and teen programming.- Seamless Progression: Use music and prayer to keep students engaged from preschool through B'nei Mitzvah and beyond.Reporting line: Reports to the Senior Rabbi/CEO; may supervise tutors and contractors.What are we looking for? Qualifications include: vocal skills and knowledge of traditional and contemporary Jewish music; ability to lead weekly, daily, and High Holiday services; competency in Hebrew and ability to read/teach Torah, Haftarah, and Megillot; love of teaching; commitment to Conservative Judaism; strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; excellent organization, time management, and communication.What do you bring? Health FSA, TransitCheck FSA, Dependent Care FSA, family leave, synagogue membership, tuition discounts, paid vacation, a weekday off (generally Thursdays), vision and dental insurance, professional development support. First contract will not include employer pension contributions; elective contributions to the Joint Retirement Board may be made.Schedule and Expectations: On‑site, Shabbat‑centric role in Midtown East, with regular evening and weekend responsibilities (Shabbat services, daily minyan, festivals and High Holidays, rehearsals, educational programming, life‑cycle events).
