Key Aspects of the Role: What You Will Do1. Transformative Ritual Leadership- Create welcoming, joyful services for Shabbat, daily, and holidays, encouraging participation and singing.- Collaborate with the Rabbi and lay leadership to balance tradition with innovative melodies and styles.- Elevate spirituality through meaningful prayer and music, using voice, instruments (when appropriate), and community participation.2. B'nei Mitzvah and Educational Leadership- Play a central, hands-on role in the B’nei Mitzvah program.- Oversee and execute all B'nei Mitzvah tutoring with the Baal Koreh/Tutor, ensuring excellence in Torah and Haftarah chanting and service leading.3. Musical Program Development & Innovation- Develop creative programs that extend music beyond ritual services.- Design and lead musical events, adult learning, and community programs to elevate SPS’s musical profile.- Lead Kol Rinah, the volunteer choir.4. Music Education for All Ages- Engage learners across Kaplan Nursery School, Jackson Religious School, and teen programming.- Use music and prayer to keep students engaged from preschool through B'nei Mitzvah and beyond.Reporting line: Reports to the Senior Rabbi/CEO and may supervise tutors and contractors.What are we looking for?- Vocal skills; knowledge of traditional and contemporary Jewish music and liturgy.- Ability to lead services year-round, including High Holidays.- Hebrew competency; ability to read/teach Torah, Haftarah, and Megillot (a baal koreh reads most Torah throughout the year).- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and collaboration skills; love of teaching and Conservative Judaism values.
