Camp Coordinator

Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Camp Coordinator plays a key leadership role in creating a fun, safe, and unforgettable camp experience. This position directly supervises Camp Counselors and helps shape the daily magic of J Camp—building community, supporting staff, and ensuring every camper feels seen, supported, and inspired.
Pay Range: $21.00 – $23.00 per hour, depending on experience and location.
What You’ll Do
- Lead with positivity and professionalism, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all campers and staff.
- Create, manage, and uphold daily camp schedules—including field trip coordination—to keep camp running smoothly.
- Jump into the action by actively participating in activities and supervising both campers and staff (including in the pool).
- Support staff development through mid-summer evaluations and ongoing coaching.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to incidents, illnesses, or emerging situations to maintain a safe environment.
- Help manage parent communication—including emails and updates—under the guidance of the Camp Director.
- Track and verify camper attendance for assigned programs.
- Foster campers’ social and emotional growth through positive behavior strategies, supportive interactions, and conflict resolution.
- Communicate clearly and collaboratively with the J Camp team, both verbally and in writing.
- Notify the Camp Director immediately of any concerns involving campers, staff, parents/guardians, or community members.
- Step in to support groups or counselors who need extra help throughout the day.
- Serve as a positive ambassador of the SJCC at all times.
- Follow all SJCC emergency and safety procedures.
- Be available for occasional evening or weekend work as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the camp.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position provides direct supervision to Camp Counselors, helping guide, mentor, and support them throughout the summer.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education/Experience: Experience and/or training working with children preferred. Attendance at J Camp staff training is required unless approval to train separately is granted in writing by the Camp Director. Supervisory experience preferred.
Other Skills: Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification for adults/infants/children, through an approved certifying body, or willingness to get certified.
