The Staenberg-Loup Jewish Community Center of Denver is seeking a full-time employee with high energy, experience, and passion to work on the camps team supporting year-round programming for children entering Kindergarten through 8th grade. The Assistant Director of Programming will directly work with the Camp Shai team to support their day camp programs in the summer as well as their School’s Out! programs during the school year.
The Assistant Director of Programs is primarily responsible for creating, facilitating, and supervising programming for K-8th campers in our summer and school-year offerings through strategies such as:
- Curriculum Development & Design: Specailized design of curriculum that keeps programs fresh, age-appropriate, and engaging throughout our summer and school-year programs
- Operational Administration: Support in facilitating all logistical operations that make camp run in the summer and in our school year programs
- Staff Training: Specialized training for seasonal staff to understand the operations, procedures, and policies of our Camp Shai and School’s Out! programs
- Observations and Technical Assistance: Surveying program curriculum, activity flow, camp environment, and other factors to determine methods to increase the quality and effectiveness of our offerings
- Seasonal Staff Supervision: Directly supervise a team of seasonal staff in the summer and conduct routine evaluations to provide ongoing support and coaching

Role and Responsibilities
Program Development & Oversight
- Design and supervise all aspects of programming for Kindergarten through 8th-grade youth, such as Camp Shai Day Camp, “School’s Out!”, Family Events, and more!
- Oversee and support the development of program curriculum at Camp Shai during the summer
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Camper Wellness and the inclusion team to make any necessary program modifications to accommodate campers with and without identified needs
- Engage and facilitate programming to promote positive youth development
- Supervise and support the development of program curriculum at Camp Shai during the summer
- Manage and maintain the program supplies budget and assist in purchasing necessary materials for programming
- Supervise and oversee programming and activities for Camp Shai’s extended care services (Sunrise Care & Sunset Care)
Direct Service & Leadership
- Support in crisis intervention during Camp Shai and School’s Out! programs
- Support with direct supervision of campers and staff supervision during School’s Out! programs
- Use written and/or verbal communication with families regularly to share pertinent information about campers’ mood and behavior, as well as any program updates
- Support and implement regular evaluations for seasonal staff
- Assist in all ACA and Licensing Accreditations and visits ensuring complete and accurate documentation of all program areas and compliance with safety standards
Hiring, Supervision, & Management
- Support in an annual review of hiring practices, seasonal job descriptions, and screening & interview tools
- Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of seasonal staff for summer and School’s Out! positions
- Provide supervision, oversight, and support for seasonal staff members as assigned
- This may include overseeing employee contracts and performance reviews as requested by the Camp Director
- Collaborate with the Camp Leadership team to support the facilitation of regular training for seasonal staff members
Outreach, Communication, & Marketing
- Collaborate with the Camp Director team on recruitment strategy for both campers and seasonal staff
- Utilize CampMinder and other software programs to provide strong customer service to families enrolling in Camp Shai and School’s Out!
- Develop and strengthen relationships with children and families for all youth programming through in-person interactions, parent/guardian emails, phone calls, e-blasts, online presence, school visits, meet and greets, and other community outreach events
- Collaborate with JCC’s Engagement Department & Early Learning School (ELS) to recruit children for youth programming and build relationships in the broader Denver community
Administrative Responsibilities
- Manage CRM system (ex. CampMinder) for reporting, enrollment, and camper needs tracking
- Manage program budget and ensure spending is within the approved amount toward the department’s annual budget
- Oversee consistent documentation of all new camper programming to ensure all programs can be captured accurately and used in future seasons
- Support daily logistics of Camp Shai that may include: daily schedules, pool & swimming schedules, and transportation procedures
- Maintain camper and staff records, as well as facility requirements, to comply with Colorado’s childcare licensing regulations
- Regularly meet with inclusion counterparts in other departments (Early Learning School, Ranch Camp)
- Responsible for communication and marketing of programs via email, social media, and phone calls
- Coordinate logistics and internal/external reservations for programs
State Licensing & American Camping Association (ACA) Accreditation
- Be familiar with and uphold all Colorado State Childcare licensing requirements for school-based childcare programs
- Be familiar with and uphold all American Camping Association requirements for day camps.
- Be responsible for designing programs that comply with Colorado State licensing requirements
Other Duties (as assigned)
- Must be able to drive company vehicles with and without children on- and off- site for programming

Employee must also be able to walk upwards of two miles each day, including the use of stairs and uneven terrain. Employee may also stand, sit in chairs or on the ground, run, and swim. Mental requirements include, but are not limited to, the ability to concentrate, effectively cope with stress, adapt to and stay alert in a professional environment, as well as an ability to problem solve and de-escalate crisis situations and challenging behaviors. Qualifications
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- Must hold at least 3 years of verifiable experience working with children
- Must hold a valid First Aid & CPR certification. Opportunities for certification will be made available through the JCC prior to the start of each summer season
- Must be able to fulfill requirements for employment at the Staenberg-Loup JCC, including background screening, three professional references, documentation, and compliance with CDHS law
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in either a school or camp environment
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Work, Curriculum Development, or other related fields
- Previous leadership or supervision experience is a plus

Full-Time employees of the JCC are considered benefits-eligible.
The JCC contributes a portion of medical, dental, and vision plan premiums. The JCC proudly pays for 100% of Basic Life Insurance, AD&D, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability coverage for benefits eligible employees. We also provide additional voluntary benefit plans.
The JCC has a 401(K) Plan available for elective deferral contributions for employees over 21 years of age with no waiting period. The JCC matches 50% of employee contributions, up to 3%, on a 5-year vesting schedule.
Paid Time Off is a day-one benefit, accrued based on years of service and in compliance with Colorado Health Families & Workplaces Act.
